Milk Intolerance and Avoiding Foods
« on: October 26, 2009, 22:30:03 pm »
DS has a milk protein intolerance. I am bf and only avoiding the primary sources: milk, yogurt, ice cream, and cheese.
I have only tried ice cream without any reaction. I don't care for yogurt so haven't tried it.

My question is, that I understand that those that have intolerance to cow's milk protein can still sometimes have yogurt and ice cream, or something like that due to the nature of the protein. Is this true?

Also, I can eat baked goods and other foods with dairy hidden in it and ds does not have a reaction. Will ds be able to have these types of foods in the coming months? At this point I am mostly wanting to give him Mum Mum's (rice rusks), but there are milk ingredients in it.

Thanks.
~Keri~

Can you get the organic Mum Mum's ? they don't have milk products in them, I used them for Spencer (actually they are still her favourite food) She still can't handle drinking milk all the time, but loves yogurt, cheese and has other food with milk in it with no problems.

I've heard that too actually.  Especially when it comes to baked goods, because the amount of dairy in that is so minute.  You can always test it out and see. :)

I too have heard that.  My dd2 has a milk allergy (among many others), and I have just now been able to eat foods that have milk in them with no reaction (that we know of, just started!).  However, I'd say at his age to wait until at least 9 months until trying trace dairy - simply because if his gut was damaged from the original issue then it can take a really long time to fully heal.  So even something that probably won't bother him (i.e, milk in baked goods) may look like an issue.  Does that make sense?  AWESOME that you are able to eat trace dairy, ice cream, yogurt (most likely cheese than).

Good luck, and great job!!
