MY LO just got his first tooth, and I think another is working itself out too.

Since teething my DS wakes up at least once a night in addition to the DF. If I can dream feed him BEFORE he wakes himself up he usually will sleep through the rest of the night, but if he wakes up a little before the dream feed, I know he will wake again around 5 am.

When I try and comfort him he just gets very frustrated, and cries and pushes off me, but falls RIGHT back asleep if I bf him! So it is really hard to fight him in the middle of the night!

We already went thru the whole pu/pd and he falls asleep for naps great and to bed at night. He takes 2 naps a day, both usually 1 & 1/2 hours long, if his second nap is too short, I usually let him CN before bed. Bed is at 7pm, and he wakes around 7:30am.  Any suggestions for night wakings without getting him all worked up? I do wait it out a little to make sure he wont fall asleep on his own, which he does about half the time but ends up waking again about at hour later!

Why does PUPD not work for him? What happens?

It definitally did help sleep train him,but it never worked when I was trying to extend his naps or get him back to sleep in the middle of the night. He would get so worked up and fight me to the end of his nap.

In the middle of the night, he just gets overly frustrated and screams crying. But falls right asleep if I BF him. Even while I was sleep training, he would just get frustrated with me if I did pu/pd to try and get him BACK to sleep, but did work when putting him down for a nap/bed.

Some amount of frustration and crying with normal with PUPD, and part of the process - I'm not sure what else you would use to wean night feeds, unless he still responds to shush-pat.

Hi

I find PU/PD is touch and go for NW...much easier to try and comfort in the cot by stroking back or lightly patting, if i do PU/PD in night i have to hold her a little longer to comfort a bit more... not ages just a quick 1 minute cuddle then soothe her within the cot...

also I found that until I completely stopped the BF for waking (never ever giving in) she would always get worked up cos she wanted the booby so badly!!

once they know they are not getting it anyway it does help calm them quicker...

although I do find I still have a battle on my hands unless I get in there quick speed!! My rule is before 2am let her try and settle herself before stepping in...if later then she has had more sleep and gets alot more alert and takes too long to settle if I leave her more than 30 seconds!!...

quite funny seeing me jump out of bed at 4am in the morning like a zombie running across the hallway!!!

How long did it take you to break the night feeding habits?

Mostly I am worried that he is going through a growth spurt (he's 6 1/2 months) and that I am not feeding him enough, he takes a FULL feed every time!

That makes sense rather than trying to battle him in the middle of the the night pu/pd.

For us, it took two nights (we dropped the DF at the same time) then he was sleeping 7-7

Hi

for me I made the decision once and for all to stop BF before morning wake up and used PU/PD...think I caved in after a few days then had to start again then got stricter and refused point blanc...no more booby!!!

its really hard cos its so tempting at 3 in the morning to get them back down quickly with a nice close BF but in the long run its alot more trouble than its worth!!

and they will always take a full BF no matter what time in the night cos they are using you to comfort back to sleep...I used to have to pull her off or she would stay on the boob all night!! ...they regulate the flow so they arent getting as much as a normal feed...

honestly they dont need it after this age... tho when my DD is really poorly sometimes I give her a sneaky comfort feed but that is total last resort!
