DD is refusing her bedtime breastfeed!!!
« on: October 31, 2009, 19:27:08 pm »
DD is just under 10 months old. I breastfeed her first thing in the morning and last thing before bed. The other two middle of the day feeds are formula since i went back to work.

On Tuesday night i was out so DH gave her a bottle of formula.
Wednesday night she refused her breastmilk from me, but slept through the night fine.
Thursday night she fed from me okay.
Friday night she refused again and slept through again.
Tonight she has refused it again!!

I thought it was because she wasn't hungry, but tonight she had her bottle at 3pm then her tea at 5pm and nothing else until i tried to breastfeed her at 7pm.

What is going on? Is it time to drop a daytime bottle do you think?

I haven't offered her a bottle instead because i would rather continue to breastfeed her morning and night until she is a year old.

:(

Hi there  :)

Just noticed that there's not been any response on your thread. How are things now? Is she still consistently refusing the bedtime breastfeed?

The recommendation is for 4 milk feeds (formula or BM) per day up to 10 months. At 10m, there's no reason to drop a feed - as you know, it's their primary form of nutrition until they're a year old so keeping those 4 feeds a day up to a year or more is great, if they're feeding well.

But if she's still refusing that feed, it might be worth having a jiggle about with the timings of the other feeds during the day - so perhaps making the afternoon feed earlier?

Just one more question; does she normally STTN when she used to take the bedtime BF?

Let me know?

Charlotte

Sorry, I missed this one before as well.

Natalie went cold-turkey from my breast at 8 months (I was in AGONY as we'd been exclusively BF! :o) and would only take milk from a cup. With a straw. Drat our showing her she could get a feed in 30 SECONDS instead of just a couple minutes. ::)

Will she accept a bedtime bottle still? Can you express one while DH gives a bedtime bottle? You can save the milk to use for next bedtime; I did that with Josie, who at least WOULD accept either breast or bottle for bedtime.
