8.5 month old waking @ 5:30 am
« on: November 10, 2009, 20:45:15 pm »
My daughter goes to sleep at 7:30 pm and does not have a dreamfeed (it was cut out about 2 weeks ago).  Now she is sleeping through the night but waking @ 5:30 am.

How do I get her to sleep through this 5:30 am wake up?  PU/PD does not work for us.  Should I wake her just before 5:30 with a slight nudge?  I'm just worried that will wake her up and make her more upset.

Please share your advice.
Thanks,

Could my lo still need a dreamfeed as I have been feeding her @ 5:30am and she is REALLY hungry.  She weighs only 16lbs (which is in the 5th percentile....not that I use this but only recently checked it because I was curious)!

The dreamfeed isn't recommended past about 7.5 mo because at that point it messes with sleep cycles. Some LOs do genuinely need a night feed though even up to a year, and yours might be one of those :)  Nothing wrong with that as long as it's genuine.

Great - thank you for your reply.  I will try to dream feed and see if that works..if not then the wake to sleep will be my next step.  One question though, my LO stirs even if I just open her door...does anyone have any suggestions?  I'm wondering if by opening the door will wake her too much?!?!?

Colin used to be a REALLY light sleeper as well. To do W2S with him, all I did was turn the doorknob. Literally! That was all it took for him to stir and change sleep cycles.
