14 mo LO started lifting my shirt wants to nurse - what should I do ?

Dear Ladies,

DS is 14 mo soon and so far we have been on a good routine, and he never wanted to nurse  more then those time (morning/dawn, noon, evening) last week we were playing on the floor and he just came to me lifted my shirt and wanted to nurse, I did not mind. since that it did not happen every day but 3-4 times I always let him nurse as I dont know what else to do, this is so new to me.

I remember how I screwed up with night wakings when I was feeding him every time he woke up and it took until 12 mo to stop several night feeds. I dont want to make the same mistake here. what should I do? I dont want to nurse him more than when he was little. My plan is to continue at least till 18 mo, but not on demand, but gradually decreasing frequency not increasing!.

Should I refuse these new approaches for more nursing? Is this just a phase? does this mean that he is maturing and start to develop a different attachment to nursing?  I m at complete lost and I fear a bit already the weaning process. Should he not be less attached to it by now?

When my LO started doing this (he still does, very occasionally, just to try his luck), I would just gently remove his hands and say it's not time for milk now, and then distract him with a drink or snack or toy. If he is reluctant to be distracted, a good tip is to sit him on your lap facing away from you and look at a toy or book like that together so he is not facing your boobs.
