EW are creeping back .Please help!!!
« on: November 18, 2009, 06:44:16 am »
we are on day 3 of 5/5.30am waking and i need to crack this before it gets out of hand again. >:(

D is now 16 months,on 1 nap and although never been a gr8 napper her nights have always been quite decent.we struggled with EW for a long time during the 2-1 but has been consistently on 1 nap for a while now and with a consistent set time for naps and bed things were really so much better. she was doing:

6.15/6.30 wake up
11.30-12.45/50
6.30 sleep
we did start getting 7.00 wake ups for a while so the day was pushed a little which was gr8 but this was short lived!!!

she was awake at 5.30 yesterday so she had 2 naps cos fell asleep in the car.so did;
5.30
9.30-9.50
1.00-2.15
7.00 bed

Anything sticking out at you cos i am stumped!! i get so mad with these EW!! The whole house is up at crazy o clock and that results in a very grumpy house!!! ::)

Hey,

We're in the middle of something similar so can offer some sympathy!! I've been following some other threads for ideas, here are a few:
- if suspect teeth, dose before bed (yes, for us as we're getting some NWs too)
- eliminating light and sound from the room at the time that she may wake (I've turned off our baby monitor!)
- working out if it is UT or OT and reacting accordingly. I think for us the trigger is often a late night which leads to a too long nap the next day, then an EW. I think!
- looking at balancing the A times for your child. I need to bring our naps forward and bedtime back a touch. Does she struggle with long mornings? Could you lengthen them if needs be? Does her bedtime need to change at all?

Just some ideas, hope some are of use.

Our EWs are usually teeth and UT related, just to throw that in.

However we're having EWs at the mo too so wanted to hop on your thread - hope you don't mind!

Could it be teeth?  If so are you able to give her meds half way through the night (I mean without waking her) we can't but I know some people do!

thanx for yor replies.

yep she is def teething.Tho i thought teething would have meant NW not EW but who knows? i guess her meds have worn off by then.she had paracetamol at bedtime and then a 'dream med' of ibuprofen at 10pm.she is cutting at least 2,that i can see so definately suffering at the moment.

she could def handle the longer A in the morning.she is an energiser bunny!! but with these EW 1 nap is really hard.i have had to do 2 the last couple of days tho im not sure that is helping.

Today was a nightmare.she had a nap 9.30-10 but then refused another nap!! The earliest i could get her to bed was 6.20.something tells me tonight is not going to be good!

HELP!!!!

Oh I am sorry, and you know I've had many horrible 2 naps days - or one nap and nap refusal!  I have also found too much day sleep for us leads to EWs as well.  What were her naps before?

Have you tried meds before naps?  Not that it especially helps us!  I have just stuck to one nap even with EWs as we end up with the same problem you have had!  What time is she waking - weren't you doing an 11.30am nap (I vaguely remember reading that?)

I'd stick with that nap and let her sleep as long as poss and then early bed if it's short...

We get EWs with teeth Lucy.

J has been teething like a madman for a few weeks now - has cut 4 incisors and 3 molars in 2 months. At first I started to try and do 2 naps thinking 'teeth need more sleep' but it just caused chaos, so I went back to just one nap and tried to ignore it all as best as I can. Seems to work better that way - a bit of disruption but not sheer choas iyswim?

It isn't anything stupid like your heating or hot water coming on? J wakes with ours, so DH has to get dressed in the cold  ;D. Actually I leave the heating on until later in the evening, and then put it back on a 6.30am when it is acceptable for him to wake.

Sorry to hear of your recent EWs Lucy!  We have JUST gotten to one nap...4 days and counting.  I came to realize that with 2 naps, his night was being robbed.  I just decided to go for it, and see what happened.  What I learned is that Mikey likes his longest A before bed...yes, strange, but it has worked out for us, at least for the past 4 days.  He is getting 6hr A before bed (even a little longer on the first two days of the one nap)  So, our routine has been something like this:

6:45 wake
11:30-1:30 nap
7:30 bed

He likes his shorter A in the am, that's what I need in order to get a good nap.  Moving to one nap and having a longer A before bed has cracked the EWs for us (at least for now!!!)  Hope this helps!

Laura-its def not too much sleep...we have always had shorter naps 1.5 hrs being amazing for us and she has made up for it with her night sleep.well, she was doing. :-\
i have tried the meds before naps it makes no difference.she just doesnt DO long naps.

i think you are right about just battling thru with the 1 nap regardless,it cant get much worse than yesterday!

Liz-definately nothing coming on waking her.we dont put the heating on till we get up for fear of waking her and Ben.The pipes are so noisy in our house!

last night wasnt too bad considering such a bad day.asleep for 6.20,a breif NW at 3.40 where i gave meds and bonjela and then woke at 6am.i had hoped she would sleep a bit more to make up for yesterday but it could have been worse.

after a 6am wake i tried for her usual 11.30 nap but she was not having it! jumping around her cot shouting 'mummy no bed',singing and chatting! i left her for ages and she got so mad! i got her up,gave her some lunch and had her back down for 12.20.she slept till 1.30! ::) in bed tonight for 6.45 so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Babyboy-that is interesting.Daisy can seem to keep going for ridiculously long A's but i just put her down at what i think is reasonable. But that is def worth thinking about.Low sleep needs doesnt come close to describing this girl!!
