Nipping the catnap and short naps in the bud
« on: November 30, 2009, 01:56:57 am »
My LO is 7 months old and I am finding that I can't get him to take any longer than 1 hour and 15 minute naps twice a day. Therefore, he often needs a 30 min. catnap, which would be nice to drop as he often resists.

He is textbook in most ways, but when it comes to napping and OT, he is very very touchy. I have tried to increase A times (even in short intervals) and he always gets overtired and naps will be cut significantly shorter. I always read his tired cues and get him to bed within 10-15 minutes including wind down.

I can't do PUPD to solve this problem as we aren't ready to give up the paci. So, over on the EASY board a mod suggested W2S, but wasn't sure at what point in the 1 hour 15 minute nap I should go in (e.g. 10, 20 minutes before). At what time should I go in?

I am posting DS's routine as well:

6:30 wake up and play in crib
7:00 bottle
8:00 breakfast
9-10:15 nap (has no probem going down)
10:30 bottle
12:00 lunch
1-2:15 or 30 nap (no problem going down)
2:30 bottle
5:00 sometimes a very short catnap
5:30 Supper
6:15 bath and bottle
6:45-7:15 (having a hard time as he if often OT)

No DF and sleeps until 6:30 a.m.

hi! well at this age and for the CN to be dropped he needs to be doing at least 3 hours A time. 45min naps are indicative of being UT before going to sleep, he is tired enough to fall asleep but not tired enough to sleep for as long as needed. with dropping hte catnap you will end up with two 1.5 hour naps per day so hes only 15mins short of that at each nap time but still isnt doing enough A time to make the day long enough. how far of an increase did you get to when extending his A time previously and what were the results?

with W2S I would probably suggest going in at the 1 hour mark? most of the time with W2S its trial and error, each little one responds differenlty to different times
