Was STTN, suddenly NWs at 7mo, any ideas??
« on: December 02, 2009, 19:28:25 pm »
Hi, DD was finally sleeping through around 6mo and we FINALLY outgrew/made some progress on her daytime sleep. We had a few days of blissfully good naps AND STTN then its all changed again... help!

She is now just 7mo and the last 3 nights we have had NWs around 3am.  She begins talking then gets to crying, then escalates until last night we had several hours of unconsolable screaming (previous 2 nights she resettled sooner).  So far have been shh/pat to resettle which works well to extend her naps, must admit to AP on the first night, brought her into bed and let her BF...

It could be teething but I would have thought she wouldnt have started out chatting seemingly contentedly, that she would have woken up grumpy.  I dont think its hunger, she is on a good 3 solids meal a day plus at least a pint (prob more) of milk.  Our routine is below but there hasnt been any major changes to this or developmentally any new tricks.

I am so perplexed and wondered if anyone had any bright ideas, thanks in advance.

E 7am BF (wakes around 6.30am, since she dropped the evening cat nap she has an earlier bedtime, she was sleeping til 7am)
A
S 9.30 usually for an hour

E 11am small bottle then solids at 11.45/noon
A
S 1-3pm (sometimes slightly less)

E 3pm bottle
A

Dinner 5pm
Bath 6pm
Bed 6.30pm at present, was trying to get this to 7pm slowly but since NWs she has been too tired to attempt even 10 mins push back

NWs occur around 3am/4am.

thanks.

EASY since couple of weeks, been on this routine for about a month, since weaning really, with some tweaks.

No props - she self settles just fine for naps and bedtime, and when she used to feed at night she would go right back with not a peep.

Dropped DF pretty early, as it wasnt making any difference to time/amount of later night feeds.

Yes, limit first nap to 1 hour to get a good pm nap.

thanks in advance...

thanks - will try that, it would be good to have a shorter last A time as she can get OT towards end of the day, and would love to get back to a 7am wake up.

So morning nap would be 930-11 and afternoon would be 130-330?

On our old routine was giving breakfast at 745 or so, lunch at noon and dinner at 5pm.  LAst night she woke around 330am and I offered a bottle because she was acting hungry and she took it all- 5oz.  So now I am completely confused.  She was sleeping thru before and now she is waking due to hunger???  I really do not want to revert to feeding her at night, but of course I dont want to deprive her of food if she is hungry.  But then this morning she hardly BF first feed bec she was not so hungry altho she did eat a decent solids breakfast.

What do you think is best to get her back sleeping through the night??  I dont mind doing a couple of nights of shh/pat over the weekend if thats what it will take??

thanks again.

Update - we are getting some results slowly, so thank you!!  Have been extending A time but ever so slowly, and already seeing an improvement.  I dont think it was a GS as we already had one at 6 mo, but even so I made sure she was getting plenty to eat in the day.  Anyway, we are on about day 3 of no NWs... fingers crossed!  thanks again.
