How do you make a 3.5 hour EASY work??
« on: December 10, 2009, 16:10:59 pm »
I am pretty confused - and I'm sure this has been pointed out before - but the 3.5 hour EASY posted on the 3-4 Hr. Transition Thread doesn't make sense to me...

Because the first EASY cycle works, but then the second the A time is 2.5 hours.  My LO can only do 1:40, but does not seem hungry at the 3 hour mark.

Any example 3.5 hour schedules that works??  Or can I not move to the 3.5 EASY till the LO can make it 2 hours?

Thanks!
Melinda

Well my lo is 15 weeks and we have recently embarked on a 3.5 hr EASY.  Our days are generally as follows

E 6.30
A 7.00 with wind down at 8am
S 8.15

E 10
A 10.30 with wind down at 11.30am
S 11.45am

Things tend to go a bit wonky here with 45 min naps so I extend this cycle to 4 hours to fit in 2 x 45 min naps.

E 2pm
A 2.30pm
S 3.30-4.30 catnap followed by massagr

E 5.30pm
A bath etc and top up before bed
S 7pm
DF at 10.30 pm

Hope this helps! Shes combination fed and seems to be doing really well on this routine.

any questions just let me know

Thanks, Suzy - could you give me the times of her naps?  For instance, she's asleep at 8:15 - does she wake at 10?  I have been shooting for 3 1.5 hour naps...and that's where I run into a problem - so it looks like this today:

Awake and  E:  6am
A- 6:30-7:30
S - 7:30-9
A- 9- 9:30

E- 9:30
A - 10-10:30 (short b/c he was up at 9)
S - 10:30-12

So here he's supposed to wait an hour to eat till 1pm?

Thank you!
Melinda

Yeah, generally she will sleep til 10am but if she wakes early, say 9.30 I'll just unwrap the swaddle and leave her to have a kick in her cot til 10am and treat the next 'a' time as normal as possible.  Afternoon naps can vary but i aim for the first 45 min at 11.30amish followed by an hour ish of 'a' time and then another 45 mins to tide her over til her next feed at 2pm. I dont think its a good idea to leave her an hour before the 1pm feed if she cant manage 2pm 'a' time because ive found that to mess up subsequent naps.  My routine evolved due to the middle of the day 45 min naps but if youre still getting 3 x 1.5hr naps i'd be inclined to perhaps shorten that cycle to accomodate?

This is only my experience and we dont have it perfect yet :) Hope it helps though
