need some help restarting EASY
« on: December 10, 2009, 18:20:13 pm »
My son was on EASY since birth. He is now 11 weeks and for the past 3-4 weeks we dealt with him developing protein sensitivity and is now on alimentum doing much better; however, during this time we totally lost EASY and I am ready to start up again. After reading the FAQ I still have a few Questions. We would like to start our day off between 6-7. He is a big boy, almost 14lbs. He was eating about 4oz every 3hrs and then would fall asleep around 8-9pm until about 1am then eat again at 1am and 4am then up between 7-8am. Naps and A time were all over the place as he was throwing up and sick all day. The past few days i have increased to 5 oz with no change in eating times and no more sleep at night. So my questions are
Do I start cluster feeding and DF? or just a DF?
Could someone give me an ideal schedule?
He wakes up at naps needing his pacifier, should i give it to him with sh/pt or just let him cry with sh/pt and get rid of the pacifier?

At this age you would just do the cluster feed.

The pacifier is a personal choice. You can just do pat/sh or you could give him back the pacifier. If it doesn't seem to be a problem for him then I would just let him have it, but like I said that's a personal choice.

Here is a sample routine:
7.00am Wake and Eat
7.30am Play
8.30am Sleep

10.00am Wake and feed
10.30am play
11.30am Sleep

1:00 Wake and feed
Play
2:30 Sleep

4:00pm Wake and feed
Play
Catnap sometime in here. When you can get him down. for 30-45 min.
6.30pm Bath
6:45/7.00pm Feed
7:00/7.15pm Bed

Remember it's just a guideline. It's not going to be perfect. Your LO may need more or less Awake time. Remember to follow his cues.

Thank you for your help. I have a few more questions, if I may.
1) Is the cluster the 4 and 730 feeds? That would only be 5 feeds a day. So then I just let him wake up at 1am and 4 am for feeds.
2) Isn't he old enough to only be at 1 night feeding max? He wakes up at 4 am like clockwork, it never fails. I am actually wondering if this is a habit not hunger.
3) If I should only cluster, when do I add a dream feed or should I have been doing that earlier and he is too old now. I read the first book on a loan and have ordered the all questions answered book. Sorry if this is a repeat question.

I would feed at 4, 7 and then 10-11 sometime. It is not too late to start the DF.
If you want to feed before the bath and then right before he goes to bed that would be fine. You call that a top up feed. That is what I did with my LO.

If he is waking at exactly 4am I would say that is habitual and not necessarily hunger. Is there something happening in the environment at that time. Like the heating kicks on, the neighbor leaves for work, dogs barking, or something like that that could be making him stir?

Glad to hear you ordered Baby Whisperer Solves all your Problems. It is a great book. Very helpful.
