seems like everytime I go and pick up my lo..it disrupts her from her sleep. she lets out this sigh and her body gets rigid and I know she's awake - her feet are moving about and her eyes are darting open etc.

Does she need it at almost 5 and half months? Is it creating night wakings? Can she go 12 hours without needing it?

Just seeing what's creating her night wakings...

thanks!

Ok, really, I'm not "following" you ;D. I say if you have to wake lo up for a df then don't do it. A lo can go 12 hours at any age it depends on when they are "ready" for it. My ds at 3 months has gone a number of times without waking for a feed for 12 hours (though I prefer to have him wake to eat). I don't do df with him as he won't feed "asleep" and I have woken him and he takes to it terribly- takes long to fall asleep again and still nws afterwards. My dd (when she was this age) used to take a df quite well without waking so it never disrupted her.

lol ftm :) You and I are just having the same issues hey ;) Thanks so much for all your advice..you're so helpful.

I'm so worried to stop doing it (maybe she expects it now?) she doesn't wake up usually ...wondering how long she would go.

Hey, what if I was to put my breastmilk in a bottle and feed her while she's lying down? Good idea? It's the picking up that disrupts her sleep.

Giving a bottle of expressed for the DF is a great idea but I'm not sure how your lo would be with her reflux? I know if my ds doesn't get a burp out then the entire feed (or what seems like the entire feed) pours out of his mouth. You can always try it to see how she does, if she spits it all up then you know it's not for her. If you decide to try to stop the df all together then again, you can always see how she does. If she wakes then she is expecting it. I know when I used to df my dd she would wake the very odd time so I always switched up the time of the feed (between 10 and 11) so it was never at the exact same time.

We never did the DF with DD because (1) it definitely disrupted her sleep and (2) it definitely bothered her reflux. And I'm not doing it with DS either - I know it works for some but I just don't like making a baby eat/drink unless they are waking for hunger (unless they are underweight/medical issues of course).

Based on what you said I'd try to tank her up before bed and if she has one night feeding that's not so bad - and maybe she won't!

I tried the DF for a while but to be honest it never made much difference either way. It didn't really disturb heer but then it didn't make her sleep any longer either. Sooneer or later I just stopped doing it and waited for her to wake. Also seemed a bit pointless waking up a baby when I was trying to get her to sleep through! Then at 8 months I just stopped night feeds altogether and she was OK with it!
