weaning breastfed baby to sippy cup
« on: December 29, 2009, 23:01:20 pm »
My 9 1/2 month old DS has been a champion nurser & I plan to continue BFing until he is 1 y/o. At 6 months we started introducing a sippy cup. He still can not figure out how to tip the cup up that has a spout. The straw cups that I have found here in the states are valveless, thus requiring him to have to bite the straw to release the liquid & are very difficult to drink from(I tried it myself). Also I know that Tracy states in her book that straw cups are easier for BF babies. He can drink from a regular straw but the liquid comes out too fast. I have heard that the Tommee Tippee brand cups are great. Unfortunately they are just now becoming available in the states & only at one store so I will have to order them. Just curious as to if anyone has used the tommee tippee brand & if they worked well for the BF baby or if there is another cup that has worked well. Thanks in advance.

Hey :) My DD was breastfed and I introduced a TT sippy at 6m, it took a long time to get her used to it but I def recommend them if you can get your hands on one. It took her a while to learn to tip it up and they do spill when turned upside down but they are still the best out there IMO.
HTH.

Sorry, just to add, there are loads of different TT cups, valved, non-spill etc...The ones I use most are the standard TT sippies.
