having to reintroduce DF on 4 hr EASY - problems
« on: December 31, 2009, 17:27:08 pm »
hi
i have posted about 3>4 hr EASY transition before but i am still unsure avout what to do for the best. my lo is heading towards 3.5hr easy by herself and is now 4 months old and i know it won't be long beofore we are on 4 gr EASY. she is currently on 3 / 3.5 hr starting 6am with her last feed around 6.30pm she then sleeps through the night (occassional murmers for dummy) until 6am. i haven't had to do a night feed for about 1 month. the df never worked as she screams with reflux pain after eating so always wakes up.
the problem is on a  4 hr EASY she will be eating 6, 10, 2, 6, 10pm this means i will be disturbing her sleep which i haven't had to do for weeks. it wouldn't be a problem reintroducing df if it wasn't for reflux problem but i thought now she was sleeping a good 11 hrs that would be it...i never looked ahead to 4 - 6 months!
is it something we will just have to put up with until she starts weaning at 6mths or should i keep her on a 3 hr EASY so she can continue sleeping through ? any other ideas????????

If your lo is currently sleeping through the night, I would not re-intrduce a DF when you move over to the 4 hour EASY.

What we did was when we moved over to 4 hour EASY, we upped the amount of oz our lo had per bottle to make up for the dropping of a bottle.  This worked well and we did not have any night wakings.

How many oz is your lo drinking per bottle now?

she is only drinking between 5 / 6 oz and yesterday was quite sick at 6 oz currently 5 bottles per day.
i think it may have to be a case of experimenting for a few days and may be sticking to df until she is on a definite 4 hr routine (otherwise on a 3.5 hr routine and upping milk so only on 4 bottles her last bottle would be about 5pm which is too early!)
i think she weighs about 12 lb and is now 16 weeks. it has reassured me to know other 4 month olds have gone down to 4 bottles though, that is what i was really worried about, thanks

If you did not want to go down the DF route, you could split the last feed and offer it as a kind of cluster feed, so feed at 5pm and then perhaps a smaller feed at 7pm and see if that worked for you.

Keep us posted on how you get on.
