Blossom Farm Play & Perform Platform
« on: January 10, 2010, 05:52:12 am »
Hi,

my lo is 4 months and one week, is it ok for her to sit and play in the Blossom Farm Play & Perform Platform- it s a toy from ELC toy store. you know where she sits/standing and has a lot of things to play with around her. she holds her head ok but still a bit wiggly... is it risky or will it help strengthen her muscles... maybe I should strengthen them first in a different safer way?

thank you for your advice

i think the toy is called exersaucer...

I also need to know how many toys per day/week or or per A time...
there are beautiful ideas in here but i m quite confused about this..

what is ideal for the age of 4 months please

thank you

I've read advice from pediatric occupational therapists (of which I am not!) that it's best to wait on the exersaucer until 6 months and focus, instead, on tummy time so they can develop the upper body muscles they need for rolling over, crawling, etc before they develop the lower body muscles they don't need quite yet.

As for toys, at 4 months we were playing with lots of soft blocks, soft animals with rattles in them, etc.  Mostly he just rattled them and chewed on them!  I try not to play with too many toys in the 30-45 min before we wind down for a nap but other than that I just let him take the lead.

HTH!   ;)

thank you for the advice... i think I over played my lo today... did the books, some tummy time, v little she doesnt last much than 1 min...some sitting in a boppy, playpen in the morning, and a walk in the park and more books before massage and routine bath... she cried a bit too much before bedtime although her routine was the same...she never does... maybe so many variety per day is too much? ...

They really don't need a lot of different activities at this age and can quite easily get overstimulated. Especially the last hour before bedtime should be really low key.

so, some playpen / books / tummy time and stroll in the garden should be more than enough ? right... spread out during the day right?

Yeh, I would say one of those activities per A time would be plenty.

I definitely know when my guy has been overstimulated, usually it's before a nap and then he's just harder to settle down to sleep.

Good luck!

Hi,
her A time is around 1h and 30 mins to 1hr 45.. she looses interest after a while with one toy only per A time. what can I add to a playpen without OS her? just a soft toy? :S
Also in the afternoon, she gets very edgy when I give her tummy time more than 5 mins, but I discovered that when I give her her massage and I put her on her tummy for the back rub, if I put a musical/dancing toy she can last much more easily. should I be giving her tummy time before bed time? or should I simply use that toy instead for the afternoon A time?
thank you

More than one toy is fine, I guess I was just saying dont do lots of toys AND go for a walk AND baby massage etc all in one A time. At that age with my LO I would just try to make sure that the last 15 mins before wind-down would be quite low-key ie just walking round the house in mummys arms for example. Or lying on the bed 'chatting' quietly together. For tummy time I think the advice is to give her as much as possible.
