5.5 Month old waking for DF and at various other times
« on: January 11, 2010, 22:06:45 pm »
DD has been an intermittent waker since we put her onto EASY at 3.5 months.  Previously she'd been sleeping solidly from bedtime till about 5am when she'd wake up hungry.  We've held on but things don't seem to be getting better.  She does not need feeding in the night but she wakes regularly and and we're knackered!

From the first time we dreamfed her she started having multiple wakeups between 1 and 4am.  It seemed to disrupt her sleep patterns thoughout the night but it has not improved.  I've tried giving her less, more and a bottle.  Now she's started crying about 10 min before she's due her DF (BF).  She used to stir a few mins before it was due but for the last week she's waking and I've tried to shh her to sleep before feeding her but I'm sure she's expecting the feed.  DH just went it and did W2S, brave man.  Is 5.5 months too early to try to get rid of the DF though it might be a battle now she's waking?  I find it really annoying anyway because I can't go to bed early myself because if it.

She wakes crying at somewhere between 2 and 4 and turning her onto her side usually cures this.  I've no idea how to tackle this one because she does not do it at a regular time.  Sometimes I'm sure she wakes herself up farting!

She's usually restless after 5am and wakes frequently until official up time of 7am.  She does a low moan or sing to her self and she needs to be shh/patted to sleep.  I should probably keep a better track of this one because this one might be a bit more regular.

She's not rolling yet but she can shuffle around a bit.  Her crying in the night is not urgent or screamy it starts quiet and gets loader and sounds like she's just annoyed to have woken up.  We've started on solids a few days ago but have not noticed a change in her sleeping patterns since then.  She is put down awake and nearly always goes to sleep by herself.  Here is roughly what we try to stick to each day:

7am – up and BF
8:30 – Taste of solids
9 to 11am – Nap
11am – ~8oz of EBM
1 to 3pm – Nap
3pm – BF
3:30 to 5 or 5:15 – A
5 pm to 5.30 pm – Nap
5:40 pm – Taste of solids
6:30pm – BF
7:00pm – Bath and book
7:30pm – Bed
10:30 – DF (BF)

She only does 2h naps occasionally and she's thinking about dropping her catnap.  Today she napped for 2h, 1.25h and 30 min, yesterday she did 40 min, 1.5h and no cat nap.

Cheers
Jenny

my daughter wakes herself up farting too!!! :)
I was posting about this same thing.... don't have any words of wisdom, but I thought it was funny how she wakes up from her own farts! :)

They're little monkeys aren't they!

W2S for the DF at 9:30 pm sort of worked, but she work up when we were going to bed at 11 probably because of doors closing.
Madam slept better last night, I completely closed her door and put her to sleep on her front.  She had a little moan at 4am after I went to check on her but she went back to sleep by herself.  I was up anyway, maybe I'll have to get DH to do W2S on me!  She woke at 6am but I got her back to sleep quickly and she had to be woken at 7am.

I know I'm being naughty but she naps better on her front too.  I'm beginning to suspect that the whole 'back to sleep' thing is actually a ruse by writers of parenting books to make make us need help to get our babies to sleep.

When she had shorter naps, do you do an earlier bed time to compensate?  At 5.5 months she's likely ready for more than just 2 hours A time (which might help extend her naps more consistently) and may start skipping the cat nap, but then may need an earlier bed time so that she doesn't go to bed OT as that can often cause the unsettled sort of sleep you're describing.

I've not changed her bed time and I was starting to push her nap times 15 min later.  She's actually got better at sleeping because I've given in and let her sleep on her front.  She's slept through 4 out of the last 5 nights.  I think her bum was a bit bunged up the night she woke last.  We've just started on solids and I think it has put her off her pooing schedule.
Thanks for that.
