I really like the book. He does talk about CC and CIO it out though, but he also mentions how important it is to have a routine. I use the book for what to expect, and don't plan on doing the CIO method. Basically he says that if you are having early wakings, you need to move the bed time up. Ideally a 4 or 5 month old should shoot for a bedtime no later than 7. Because you move the bedtime up, you might still have one night waking until 6 months and that is ok. If it is at the same time every night then it is considered a habitual waking and not due to hunger. You could try the W2S option or the shush/pat to get them to go down. He suggests to let them try and settle on their own---that's your call. He covers what to expect in terms of sleep throughout childhood and he's been spot on in terms of my LO. So for that I highly recommend it. It is not as organized of a read as I would like, but I've been able to find what I want in it.
He also says that the morning nap will develop around 9 or 10 AM by the end of the 4th month and that the afternoon nap will develop around 12 or 1 by the end of the 6th month. Try to get your LO on a schedule so that they are going down around this time to optimize sleep (of course looking for their cues). Months 0-3 are focused on developing night sleep and 4-6 are for naps. He says that some LO can STTN after 4 months but some take until 6 mo because of bedtime and metabolism. I think that is my LO...she's a hungry girl!
hope this helps...and I'll go back to the book to see if he says anything else but I would recommend getting it. I found a fairly inexpensive copy on amazon.
