4 p.m.-6 p.m. fussiness-why??? and what to do???
« on: January 17, 2010, 16:17:15 pm »
DS is a 13 week old text-book baby who is in a 2.5-3 hour EASY. We are not religious with it but try to do things in the right order.
The last 2 weeks he has started being really grumpy and unsettled from 4-6 in the evening. He refuses to nap but doesn;t want to be on his playgym/seat either. If you try and chat with him he may chat back briefly but mostly grizzles.
He feeds well and his wind is much better since we started using infacol. We try ssh patting him but he still refuses : (

Any ideas why they do this? Is it common? How on earth am I meant to entertain him?  ???

yep it is practically normal.

There are days where you lo may need that sleep as there earlier naps may be short so they may have it. is this the 45min catnap you are talking about?

i always dred putting my little one down at 5pm and not knowing if she is going to take it or not, but sometimes she surprises me. Just perservier with it, as others have said it only gets easier

But also normally at this time they are normally more tired, so maybe try low key activities, go for a walk, not too much stimulation. And sometimes just leaving them alone is enough even if you put them outside to look at the trees etc is enough activity.

Also we had a "magic snowsuit" as soon as he went in it he would fall asleep

We had a magic snowsuit like that too, how funny!! I second letting them have some garden time in their pushchair my dd used to nap outside (we are in Denmark) and that was her winddown, sitting in her pushchair all cosily wrapped up listening to the birds and watching the clouds and trees :)

DS has ALWAYS been this way and frankly still is at 7.5 months. He's pretty good up till about 5pm but then rather fussy until 6:30/6:45 when he perks up a bit until bedtime. When it was warmer/lighter out we used to go out for a walk or eat dinner outside - which totally helped but it's too cold and dark for that lately so we just muddle through!
