Prop or Teething?
« on: January 23, 2010, 06:31:33 am »
Hi there. My 16 mth DD has been waking at least once a night for about a month. She is getting 8 all at the same time! I know she is in pain, but I am wondering if she is getting used to a visit from me when she wakes. I would rock her and sometimes feed her. She always wakes between 11 and midnight. If I just try to reassure her and do a walk in walk out, she will cry for 2 hrs! If I just go in and give her a small cup of water she will go back to sleep with no problem. I do giver her meds before bed. Should I wait out the teeth or try to get rid of the water habit? Isn't she more susceptible to ear infections if she drinks while lying down?

Here is her routine:

8am wake
1:30-3 nap
8:30 bed

Have you tried putting her down to sleep with a sippy cup of water so that she can get a drink herself if she's thirsty?

We've gone through periods like this too where I could go in and give DS a cuddle and he'll settle quickly, or I could do wiwo and it takes much longer.  I always go for the quicker route which takes a matter of minutes.  It's always been a phase that would pass.  :)

Hi ladies! Thanks for the response. Last night was awful. She woke up 5 times and a cup of water would not do. I know it is teeth. You can see her molars and eye teeth coming through. It looks painful. I haven't tried giving her a cup at bedtime, but I think I will. Do you think she could get an earache from drinking flat on her back?

I don't worry about the drinking lying down.  I feel like that is specific to milk (not sure about that though???) and is more about prolonged sucking, versus the quick drink that is more likely with a sippy of water.

With crazy teething like that I find Advil/Ibprofen to be more effective than Tylenol.  Hope they come through quickly--poor thing!
