sleep issues16 months old
« on: January 25, 2010, 18:37:18 pm »
Hi

My son is 16 months old. When he was about 6 weeks he already slept through thenight until he was 3months old.Ever since then and up until now he wakes at night to be fed with a bottle.
Lately, he's been waking up not wanting the bottle, screaming like theresno tomorrow, and only after I calm him down for like 20 mins singing and carresing him then he;ll take the bottle. for the past month or so this has been happening twice every night, first between 11pm and 1am  and second time around 5am...

Help please!!

Thank you

He really doesn't need a bottle at this age so I would cut it out right away. What is his daytime routine like?

Yes I realize he didnt need a bottle since he was about 6 months old... But I don't know how to cut it out, Iguess put a stoptoit means sitting by his bed for days ormaybe weeks and listen to the horrible screams.. I dont think I can takeit after 16 months of me being sleep deprived:(
His routineis: Waking up around 8am goto daycare, where they eat breakfast around 930 then lunch around 100 then sleep for about 2 hours, then snack, then I pick him up around 430pm, At home we play, watch tv, he eats some yougurt or a sandwich, sometimes we go to  the park, then bath and milk, then sleep around 8pm

I know it seems really tough, but once you drop those bottles then your sleepless nights can be over. So yes it may mean a few worse nights but I very much doubt it will take weeks to solve the NW problem once  the bottle is gone. Maybe one week. Also, you don't need to sit with him. If he can settle himself to sleep without you (ie at bedtime and nap time), then you would do walk in walk out.

It's one of Tracy's Babywhisperer methods? Does he settle himself to sleep at bedtime and for naps without you there? There is more info on WIWO here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=80750.0

I think you'll need to follow the Gradual Withdrawal method in the link above then.

Hi, I just wanted to check, is there any chance he's teething? My little girl is also 16 months old and for the past month or so on and off we've had some really horrible nights where she would have multiple NWs, some of them with a fair amount of crying. They seem to have settled down now after she cut through 4 teeth at once!!!

I wonder if his canines or molars are coming in??
