My baby boy used to be the most fantastic little sleeper - this all changed one month ago. He now is waking almost hourly throughout the night, I feel like i have tried everything and still nothing seems to work. My husband and I are exhausted and i am sure Max is too :(  When he is waking in the night nothing seems to really calm him, he isn't hungry, he doesn't like to be snuggled, pain medications do nothing, swaddling helps sometimes. I am hoping that there is something out there that can help that i haven't tried or maybe i haven't done 100% correctly?? Thank you to everyone in advance for your help!!

Hi Jane - Thank you so much for trying to help!

Here is what our days look like:

Wake up @ 7:15
Bottle @ 8:00 followed by cereal and fruit
Nap @ 10 to Noon
Bottle @ 12:00 followed by green beans
Bottle @ 3:00
Nap @ 3:10 to 5:00
Bottle @ 5:50 followed by cereal and fruit
Bath @ 7:00
Bottle top up @ 8:00
Bed @ 8:15

Then starts the waking and screaming, over and over for about two and half hours. All of the naps he goes to sleep awake, i usually swaddle him and give him a soother. The days are so good, I just don't understand what changes in the night? The sleeping trouble seem to start right after i started him on solids so probably a good month and a half now, it is getting worse by the day. I have to go for surgery next week and he will have to stay at my mom's and i am just so sad that she will have these sleepless nights as well. I am not sure how much more i can handle, my husband and i just don't know what to do anymore.
Thanks for any help you can provide! :)

hi there hun, well are you able to tell us what you are feeding him? if it is the solids like you think it may be then perhaps go right back to basics so just rice cereal and then slowly introduce foods again to find the culprit, thats what we had to do at 7 months old, it felt silly going to only feed him mushy old rice cereal but we soon found out what foods where keeping him up at night

from 5-6 months onwards, our los get really active. They like to move around at night and find out a comfortable position...could swaddling be something that is bothering him? Especially if he has gas?

My lo actually woke often at night due to gas, and her swaddle. Is your lo breaking out of the swaddle?

Just a thought :)

Sorry it has taken so long to respond . . .  i am not sure if it could be teeth, i had a peek in there and can't see anything but who knows they just might be on the way. We are using Motrin for pain relief but still the waking and screaming continues. Things have gotten worse over the past four days as he is now caught a NASTY chest cold and won't really sleep in the day either :(
I have stopped the solids for two days now just to see if they were the culprit, I really think this might be the answer, but he really isn't drinking his bottles right now either so i am just going to wait until tomorrow to start over again with the rice cereal. One thought i had was maybe trying a soy based cereal to start with, does this sound alright or should it just be the rice cereal??
As for the swaddling it seems he cannot put himself to sleep unless he is swaddled, but i don't wrap him to tight that he can't get out of it later once he is sleeping. Sometimes i flip him on his tummy and he seems to sleep a little better that way.
A few of my friends have staged an intervention and are taking the kids for the WHOLE NIGHT!! I am hoping that my husband and i will be able to get a great sleep in and then be able to get ready to tackle this again!
Really appreciate everyone's help!! Hope you are all well! :)

I hope you had a nice relaxing evening and some really good rest :):)

I'm not at all familiar with formulas. Some parents experiment with a few to find one that suits their baby. As long as your baby doesn't have an milk or soy protein intolerance, then trying something with soy shouldn't be problem. My lo has a sensitive tummy and when I give her certain foods, it doesn't agree with her and she cries 30 minutes after she eats it.

Perhaps keep a food journal and monitor what your lo eats closely? Rice cereal can be constipating...

good luck and keep us posted :)
