Well I am completely confused as to what is waking my son at night at the moment. I thought it was him beginning to drop the catnap and was overtiredness but now I'm not so sure. Basically he is a good napper and generally gives me an 11/11.5 hour night - usually with 1 feed, but since 4 months old it turned into 2 feeds some nights. Looking back, I wonder if he really didn't need that 2nd feed and now it is habit. Or my other thought is that he does need that 2nd feed because we are in a vicious cycle where he takes those calories at night and therefore not during the day IYKWIM. A number of things happened at 4 months so I don't if they are the contributers:
1 - Went off Zantac - had very mild reflux so I took him off it as per advice from Doctor
2 - Introduction to solids. Very slowly based on advice my from Health Nurse. He loves them.
3 - Introduction to formula at night time bottle. I breastfeed the others. Takes a huge bottle at 6.30pm - perhaps going down with an upset tummy?
I can't feel any teeth coming in. I feel as though he would be a good sleeper at night if I could figure our what the problem is. Last two nights he woke up 4 times. At a loss I tried to feed him for the first 2 NW's but he wasn't hungry - though he did go back to sleep. Gave him the dummy at 5.15am and he fell back to sleep til 6.15am. I am certain that the dummy is not the problem as when he was crying in the night he didn't even want the dummy. He is still swaddled. I tried to see how he would go without the swaddle about 6 weeks ago but got the impression it would be a disaster but maybe I should stick it out and wean it? He seems to love it though. When he is waking and crying he is lifting his legs into the air. Gas? Pain? Milestone? He has just learned to touch his feet but surely this wouldn't wake him up crying. I don't know what to do. I am thinking of taking him to the doctor today. i think he is feeling upset in the tummy and I am wondering if the big feed at night before bed is the problem and maybe I should just breastfeed him and not do a bottle. I guess I did the bottle thinking he would sleep longer. Sorry this is so long. I am so tired today. I have a 2.5 year old as well so I don't get the opportunity to go back and have a nap. Would love some advice as it is so hard to know what to do with him in the middle of the night. I gave him some pain meds this morning for the first time just in case it is teeth....
TIA
