anyone else do 2 naps and still have short A times?
« on: February 04, 2010, 18:12:55 pm »
Hi

DD is 12 months and at the mo my routine is mostly like this;

wake 7
nap - 10 - 11
nap - 2.15 - 3.45
bed - 7.30

so as you can see the A times are super short for her age...does anyone else have a similar routine at this age?

she fights naps with these A times so I think UT but when I put her down later it results in double the settling time and shorter nap??!!!

its really confusing me cos im getting quite bad nap refusals but I dont know what to do for the best and even tho I say bad nap refusals because I have worked so hard with WI/WO i can usually still get her to sleep within 10 mins max ...she rubs her eyes after just 2 hrs 30 A time usually in the morning and yawns alot too - some days she even lays her head on the floor!

I know it could just be cos of teething but its been weeks now of strangeness and I cant figure out if I should be carrying on like I am or changing it back to short am long pm routine or stretching out the first A time a bit?

MIL has her 2 days a week and never sticks to my timings!! She does first nap at the same time but cos her room isnt dark DD sleeps only 30 mins then MIL keeps pm nap at same time as I would after an hour nap so 3 hrs 15/30 mins A time after just a 30 min nap - and DD sleeps a lovely 1 1/2 - 2 hours for MIL on this one but then come bedtime is a nightmare and has NW....

I guess im just worrying that im creating a monster by not pushing the A times if thats whats needed cos I do feel like every sleep time is a battle and maybe there is an easier way...

anyone else who has a toddler that has short A times on 2 naps please share!!

and anyone with any advice please share too!!

thanks a million

Forgot to say she is babbling alot when I put her down and then cries for me I do WI/WO a few times then she goes quiet then has a little burst of crying a few minutes later is this OT? so confusing!

Hi Annette

I've not really got any advice as such but just wanted to let you know that we were doing something very similar at this age, and the only reason we changed it is because we were getting earlier mornings - which you are aren't  :)

I don't think she sounds OT as she's not doing short naps or having the dreaded EWs!  Do you think perhaps the crying think might be her just getting older and responding differently?

I think that we had a similar routine at 12m (although I believe the morning nap was a bit shorter).  It's possible that the 2 days with MIL are leaving her a little OT and therefore when she is home with you she needs the shorter As to catch up.

If your nights are good, and she is going to sleep within 10 mins and sleeping proper length naps then I would just roll with it for the time being.
