need some opinions, please! Thought we were doing ok....but H seems to be shorter napping and I think we need to up the first A time since that last molar is almost done (but now I see a small white spot starting where the first canine is :-\ ) This is the last few days:

5/1 NW 1:35 tylenol and orajel, back to sleep by 2. Was awake before 6:30, back to sleep by 7:30...had to wake at 8:40
Nap 1:45-4:15
Bedtime 9:05
NW 11:50 screaming, calmed after Tylenol and Orajel but was unsettled and awake until 1:15

5/2 awake 7:45
Nap 1:15-3:40 (wouldn’t settle on own, singing and rolling, had to stay in room) woke at 2:45 resettled
Bedtime 8:40

5/3 cried out and woke at 1:35, settled self, awake 8:15
Nap 1:25-3:10 (I think woke by shades)
Bedtime 8:15/20

5/4 woke crying at 6, motrin and Benadryl and rocked back to sleep 6:50-8:15 (had to wake)
Nap 1-2:45

I think I've figured that he needs 5hrs A before bed.

What do you think? Increase the first A time to 5.25 or 5.5???

Hey Ladies,
Take a look at this thread.   Her LO is having NW and sometimes taking 30 min to fall asleep.   She currently sleeps 2 X 1 hour naps.

hi Alyssa, I wouldnt push that A time if hes teething to be honest. we are still only getting 1.5-1.75 hour naps on a good day for one nap and ive just had to accept it, when doing one nap is it always a long one and these shorter ones are a new thing or does this happen regularly?

Jo, we just had 2 days of short nap and it's new. H has been teething nonstop since 9.5 months... One tooth at a time :( just took 4 months to get molars!!! It could be ages before we even see the cacine.

Yesterday we had to wake him at 8:30 (he woke at 7 but fell back asleep by 7:45). He did gymnastics in the am, had 2 big falls (out of his crib and down the stairs.... Bad morning!) so he was in bed asleep at 1:25. He woke at the hr mark but settled for another hour and 10 mins. That was his first nap in a bbb. Bedtime was 5 hrs after nap and he seemed ok but restless, was rolling back and forth all over. He woke 4 hrs later at 12:45 even though he had motrin and Tylenol before bed. I gave him more motrin and orajel and he laid right back down but again was so restless. I would think he was asleep then he'd toss and turn. He did that for 2 hrs! I left his room at 1:30 and he started crying again at 1:45 so I sent dh in... And that made h very mad! Dh came back at 2:30 and 5 mins later h sat up and cried but then laid down and fell asleep after 10-15 mins.

Does that sound like teeth or ut or ot???

Well I don't think its UT but it could def be teeth, I know for us that all Calebs teeth didn't really affect his sleep but the molars did so I dread the canines

I was just thinking, Alyssa - doesn't H normally settle decently after meds if it's teeth?  That's the main thing that makes me wonder if it's OT..

Aimee, yes and no...sometimes with teeth the meds make no difference. It's all a crap shoot.

The only reasons I keep thinking UT is because if I move the nap earlier, it makes no difference in length...just leaves longer to bed or bed moves up and then the wakeup moves WAY earlier.  Also, the last couple times we had some NW's like this I jumped the last A and they resolved...for a bit anyway. It definitely could be teeth, though. I just don't know what to do!! I'm so bloody tired and can't deal with being up for 2+ hours at night and then deal with H being cranky and whiny and so needy during the day. I know that sounds horrible but it just wears on me day in and day out.

Would you suggest keeping the nap as is and just trying an earlier bedtime? Like 4.5hrs or 4.75???

I'm convinced it's not UT!! AWFUL night last night. H did bedtime 8:10 (about 5hr20min) after a 2hr nap. Woke up screeching/screaming/crying at 10:25. He wasn't getting up and kept starting and stopping so I just left him. But he carried on and started to sound scared so I went in. Tried laying on his floor and he just kept carrying on. Tossed around for an hour. I couldn't give him ANY meds as it had only been 2.5 hrs since bedtime :( He just kept rolling and tossing...then he started to hum/talk to himself and I got REALLY angry. I picked him up to rock at 11:30 and he just sucked his lovey and fidgeted in my arms. I did give him some Benadryl when I got him up and he finally started to fall asleep at 12:00. Rocked until 12:30 cuz I started to fall asleep, too  :-\ He slept fine the rest of the night until 7:50.

Still a super short night  :-[ :-[ :-[ So this is either OT accumulation....how I have no idea! Or the canine trouble that I have to look forward to for the rest of my pregnancy :( Lord help me!

coming on for a major cry  :'( :'( :'( Put H down for a 1:05 nap (we were running a little late) and he was up by 2:30. I tried until 3:05 to get him back to sleep without any luck. He seems fine until the smallest thing then he just melts down. I'm losing it. I don't know what else to do. I guess try 2 naps tomorrow??? I thought we were so far beyond that but I HAVE to catch him up somehow.

Alyssa, can i suggest you start a thread in the forum? you may get some more experienced eyes on this than the people that are still here trying to work through it like you ;) that way you also get more one on one advice too

I think I'm about to venture into the "gray area".    I just recently adjusted her schedule about 2 weeks ago but now we are EW at 5am and this morning at 430am.     Is it possible for her to make another jump in A time after two weeks?
I've got a thread going already but I'm just curious if anyone else has had something like this happen.

What time did she go to bed? How long is she sleeping at night?

We just went/are going through something similar.  For us, it was OT creeping in.  DS started EWing around 5:45/6am (normal wake is 7am) and his nights were only 10-10.5hrs.  I wasn't sure if we needed to push A times again or if OT was kicking up. So I tried shortening A times and moving bed early by 15mins then 30mins - and sure enough we got a 12hr night.  I always make sure it isn't OT before pushing A times when we start getting EWs.  That was about 2 days ago and since then his A times have stayed short before naps and even BT.  We haven't even attempted 1 nap in over a month now.  I think he is starting another teething bout although I see no signs of anything going on in gums but he is a bit more chewy than usual.  Not sure what else would cause our A times to get shorter again...he was very sick a few weeks back but has since recovered so I'm ruling illness out.  I've also tried to keep our days closer to 12.5hrs rather than the 13 we were doing and that also seems to have helped get rid of EWs.

HTH!
