nelliestar, sounds like things are going great!

My eldest was high sleep needs also and while he dropped to 1 nap at around 13-14mths, he did long nights, 6ish-7.30ish. So as long as he's happy I'd go with it.

Noticed you're from Nottingham-I'm in Derbyshire, so not far from you!

Our day went great, almost 2 hour nap at 12.45 (had to do WIWO to get him to sleep in the cot, as he generally sleeps in pucshchair but I decided this  has to stop but thats a whole other thread!). Woke at 2.30ish, and very tired after dinner but went down without a peep.

Hi,

So today is a 2 nap day as D woke at 5.45am with a dirty nappy. So I let him have a round 25mins on the school run and he went down at 1.15 for his main nap. Only took 10 mins to get him to sleep in his cot and I only had to go in to him about4-6 times!

It is hard 'letting go' and going with the flow somewhat each day but I'm feeling really positive about how things are going- he's doing really well, bless him.

He IS doing really well - arr.

Bram has still been waking between 7.30 and 8am but will not do a long nap at nursery - think its the noise! At home he does 2 hrs no probs but at nursery we are only getting 1 hr or just over so by the time we leave at 6pm he is a little fed up. I have been managing to get him up to bed at 6.30pm as I am very wary of OT...its a rush but we do it. I am hoping he will get used to it and sleep longer.

Fingers crossed for you that things continue well...sorry I don't know your name! What is Con short for ? My BIL and FIL are called Con short for Cornelius!

Con is short for Conor, my eldest son. He's 5 soon- how did that happen????

I think we're not quite ready for the transition properly for a good while yet. If he wakes at 6ish he needs 20 mins or so in the am to get him through. It's such a balancing act, too much sleep and he wont go down for a nap later on and he'll be a mess.

So for this week at least I think I've cracked it!

Hi, still going OK here.

It seems that DS still needs a small amount of sleep to get him through til lunchtime. So he has about 20-25 mins at 9am on the way home from school. Then at around 1 he's ready for a sleep and he's been having anything up to 2 hours then, which is great.

So this is where I think we'll be for a good while yet.

Thats great, consmummy - he's doing really well!

Well we are going great here too - I almost daren't post in case it jinxes us!

DS is now waking between 7.30 and 8am every morning (8.10 this morning!) No NW unless he gets stuck at the bottom of the cot and then we just go in and turn him! He goes to bed between 6.3O and 7pm, the earlier one on Nursery days.

Its working brilliantly and DS is so much happier - as are we!!

We had a perfect day yesterday with a lovely 3 hour nap in the middle, couldnt have been better, but he's not consistent with it yet :(  Nights are pretty wonderful though *touch wood* !!!

Ha ha! Same here, whenever I type on here about how great it's all going it suddenly changes!

We're having all sorts of different days, havent got time to post now but will be back later. Although, nights are great and generally it's all good so not certain I need to be too worried at the moment! :)

Amen!!

Just a thought - couple of people have mentioned their LO's having a 3 hr nap when they go from 2-1. How do you decide on the length of the long nap? What does it depend on? Is there a length we should be aiming for? I always wake Bram after 2hrs 15/2hrs 30 but don't really know why we decided on that!

Just wondering....

I stumbled upon a thread the other day of some moms that were a bit farther ahead in the game than us.    They were saying the 1.5 hour nap for one nap a day is considered an OT nap.   They also figured out that after a while of them having so many 3 hour nap days that it eventually affected the night sleep.   They were getting NW and EW.   Many of them capped their LOs naps at about 2 hr 30 min so they were suffciently tired for bedtime.

Well I'm not on 1 nap yet but for me I don't like letting DS2 sleep past 3pm so that he's tired enough for bedtime. So if he's going down at 1, I'll usually wake him by around 2.45-50 as we need to be on the school run by 3- 3.05 and I like to give him time to come round and get his bearings a bit!

Once he does go to 1 nap I think I'd cap it at around 2-2.5hrs.
