Trying new veggies
« on: February 09, 2010, 13:27:40 pm »
I'm considering trying out new veggies with ds & thought of artichokes or eggplants, has anyone tried either?

We did eggplant as well as zucchini and dd liked both, actually a favorite food in our house is stir fried shredded zucchini with shredded carrots done in olive oil. Don't do artichoke but it's more because I just can't seem to make them right ;D.

:)...I really can't find them on any sites, so was worried that they might not be suitable..?!

When did you start using olive oil?

I don't think it's that they are not suitable veggies as much as they are not preferred or favorite veggies for los. Think about it- carrots are tasty raw or steamed with nothing added but eggplant is rather bland unless it's grilled and it's not a veggie eaten raw.

We started using olive oil when dd was around 10 months if I remember correctly. Our ped said to use it in cooking to get extra fats into dd as she had a bad milk protein allergy so couldn't use butter for cooking or baking anything. I used it in cooking.

Not sure if it's suitable for your lo as your lo is very young, but if I remember correctly, you lo already eats meat and other cooked foods, yes? It might be ok but perhaps check with your doctor first on when to introduce things like oils.

Please hope on..:)

He was actually very interested in food early on & till now, you have to see him droll when he watches "anyone" eat "anything" , which can be very embarrassing..!

We started off with fruits (apples, pears & grapes) @ 5 months & then added veggies & baby rice @ 6 months, it was partially because he was getting bored with what he was having & we needed to move on & started off with sweet potato.

Yeah, he does eat meats, am going tommorow to the pedi, as ds has sore bum..:(..& will ask about fats & I thought of artichokes 'cause I just read that it was a good source of iron & egg plant because I just bought some..:)

I think I might cut it in cubes, roast in the oven, then mash with sweet potato & zucchini, something like a ratatouille..:)

Yummy, I'd eat it :D!

Is he teething? My dd used to get a red bottom (and bright red cheeks) every time she was teething. Does he have any allergies?

I would think that if he had a reaction to something from Saturday you would have known by now.
