Yeah definitely!! We've had an identical day again today but he woke at 1.50 so DH is going to try and get a short nap out of him now and will start all over again tomorrow.

When you say AP him back to slepp did you mean at 4am? He did eventually go back to sleep with paci and rocking and woke about 6.30 so not too bad or did you mean after the 45 min nap yesterday? I tried for about 50 mins to get him back to sleep but no joy  ::)

hey S :)
I'm following along..you're getting great advice..

has your lo been getting consistently 3 hours of sleep a day? And going from sleep from 7-5:30 most nights?

Sort of figuring things out on my end...I think we're getting a short nap in the morning and a long nap in the afternoon. She does 11 hours pretty consistently so her nights haven't been affected. Still trying to tweak her routine but wanted to share experiences as our los are the same age-ish ;)

Hey J  ;)

My LO is sleeping pretty consistently from 6.30/7ishpm until 5.30am (although last nights he did 7-6.30!!! yeah!)

As for day sleep it's nearer 2 hours because it's usually one x 1.5hr nap and one x 0.5hr. ometimes if we're luck we'll get 2x 1hr20min naps but tjis has bben rare. The last 2 days he's had a longer morning nap and a short pm nap. Yesterday went like this:

wake up 6.30
nap 1: 9.30 - 10.30
nap 2: 1.30 - 2pm
squuezed in a 20 min nap 4.40-5pm (with major Apop he was really fighting it)
bed at 7pm

Awake today at 6.30am...

I he can at least do one long nap in the day I'd be ok with it all but more often than not he's doing 3x 30 min naps and is really grouchy!

Also anything less than 11 hours at night concerns me! Aren't they supposed to do at least 11 hours?

Yes - I did mean at 4am  :).

They are supposed to do 11hr nights and 10.5hrs tends to be a sign that they went to bed a bit OT. But it can also happen during nap transitions and illnesses etc as well. It is right before they go back into their final bit of deep sleep for the night - they don't make the final transition if something isn't right. And that can be UT/OT/teeth/illness/cold at night etc etc.

Ahhh that makes sense...oh so many variables!!

well ladies you'll both be pleased to know that today has been a good day!

woke at 6.30
nap 1 - 9.30 - 10.50
nap 2 - 14.00 - 15.00 (seems a strange length but it's better than 30 minutes that's for sure!)
will put him to bed at 6.30 i think   :-\

Generally this is the best we've had in the last week or so!

Yay...happy nap day, ever since ds hit 7.5 months we've been having odd nap lengths as well, I now look more for total day sleep rather than per nap...hope you have a great night as well..:)

Thanks guys!

Yesterday was terrible... I did 3 hours A time in the morning like the day before but only got a 30 min nap. The I shortened the second A time to 2h45...again 30 min nap so I squeezed in another 30 min nap from 4-4.30pm but guess what he then slept 7pm-6.50am  ???

I've just put him down now for his first ap after 3hour A time (fingers crossed) It is such a long day with a grumpy baby that will only nap for 30 mins. I don't know if this might be related but he woke up grumpy yesterday and then had terrible naps. Maybe his teeth are still bothering him (although, other than dribbling excessively there are no other obvious signs)

Yazzie what do you aim for in a days then with total hours of napping?

I just saw your post, we aim for a 2~3 hrs sleep, although have had less than 2hr days, on which there was an early bed time, I think it differs from one lo to another.

Sorry, you had a setback, how was the rest of your day?

not great, much the same as yesterday! on his 3rd half hour nap :( we rarely get anything more than a couple of hours in the day of napping Yazzie often 3 x 30 mins or if really lucky 2 decent naps mostly 1h20 sometimes a little more.

LizJ I'm not sure really there are no visible signs of teething other than dribble. He's had a bit of a cough this last week which has worsened over the weekend but this doesn't seem to wake him at night so didn't think it was the offending problem. Other than this he is quite whingy on and off throughout the day but I always put this down to being OT and this is nothing particularly new! he was like this even when his naps improved! Maybe it's something more  :-\ but to be honest (other than about 2/3 weeks where I managed to sort out naps and get 2 good naps in a day more often than not) he's been doing this 30 min napping thing since about 4 months...arghhhh

Just reading along and wanted to say how helpful this little tidbit is!

And on another less happy note, Spandanna...are you sure our DS's are not long lost twins? Though, I am jealous of your NW free nights!
