10 week old on 2 hour EASY - Help please
« on: February 16, 2010, 00:35:21 am »
Hello,  I started my 10 week old daughter on the EASY routine about two weeks ago and we can't seem to get it going.  She will breastfeed for 5-10 mins, will be awake anywhere from 45 mins to 1h before showing sign of being tired.  She will take anywhere from 5 mins to 45 mins to go to sleep (pacifier used and will wake up if it falls out of her mouth before falling into a deep sleep and sometimes even after - tried several times without paci and screamed for 10-15 mins even though I was holding & shh/patting her, before I gave in and gave it to her) and will sleep for 40-45 mins (sometimes will wake up and babble for a few mins before crying but does not go back down even with help from me).  This generally works out to being around a two hour routine.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi there and welcome!

are you able to tell me a few things first:
 is she swaddled?
does she have any medical problems?
is her room darkened?
do you use white noise?

She is swaddled and we use white noise (radio set to fuzz)
No medical problems that we know of
The blinds are down in her room but it is not darkened - I should give this a try
I also forgot to mention her nights - she is generally up 2-3 times throughout the night - before I looked into EASY I was feeding her each time (was 3-4 then and sometimes she was just fussing in her sleep but I would dream feed her - it was easier than waiting for her to wake up and then taking an hour to fall back asleep) but have realized that it was habitual waking not hunger so now I only dream feed her the first time she really fusses in her sleep (around 1:30-3:30) and after that I hit the vibrate on the bassinet and she goes back to sleep (does not work with the first time - she will wake if not fed). She is a big baby (9lbs 7oz at birth and 13lbs12oz at 8 weeks - has not been weighed since).  She sleeps in a bassinet in our room overnight but naps in her crib.  I don't do a traditional 11:00 dream feed because I usually go to bed shortly after she does (8:30-9:00 because I am exhausted and I don't want to set the alarm when she is in the room.

ok some of your A times are a bit inconstant, for a 10 week old the A time they can generally handle is about an hour 15-20mins, that is after a full sleep though so if she has a short nap (less than 1.5 hours) you want to shorten the next A time. i see you actually increased it after the first nap to nearly 2 hours, only a baby around 4 months old can handle 2 hours A time and thats after a full sleep as well.

So what i suggest you do is try and extend her A time to see if you can get a longer nap (45min naps can be from going to bed undertired), if she still take a short nap then shorten her next A time to about 50mins-1 hour and see how you get along there

how does that sound? if that doesnt work we will look at something else :)
