struggling to get her down for naps again!
« on: February 16, 2010, 11:22:27 am »
Hi all

yet again the nap refusals are hitting me! now my LO (1 year old) is refusing am nap after 3 hrs 30 - I can battle her and still get her down tho - usually takes about 10 mins of screaming WI/WO - she gets up on all fours over and over then stands!

then I have been letting her have 45 min nap but then after 3 hrs/3 hrs 15 A time she is really refusing to settle again...

so today I am going to cut back to 30 mins am nap after 3 hrs 40 A time (put her down at 3 hrs 30 and refused so 10 mins settling!!) Im waking her in a minute -

so usually when I used to do 30 min am nap I did 2 hr 45 A time is this still the same or do I need to reduce because of the longer A before am nap?

she is teething molars still and over this last week has had NW every single night so I know I need to change the routine to help with her OT...

bedtimes have been getting later and later - last night was an all time late bedtime of 8.45pm!! not through choice but through her screaming battle - it was horrendous!

I am giving calprofen 40 mins before sleep so pain probably not the main issue...

oh dear just when I was getting it sorted!!

and apologies to anyone that had replied on my last couple of threads that I didnt respond - I have been really poorly and working and doing 5+ NW so I just havent had the chance to get on...thankyou for reading my posts tho I really do appreciate it!

thanks so much for reading

Just an idea - I've not read your other posts so don't know your history - maybe your LO's sleep needs have gone down? Maybe she is ready for just 1 nap?

thanks for your reply...I think you are right and her sleep needs have gone down but still I know shes not ready for one nap yet but you are right she is defo wanting one nap its just that her little body isnt ready to cope with it yet!!

I put her down at 2 hrs 45 A time and she cried out a few times so I did WI/WO just twice then quiet ...but then I heard her 10 mins later babbling to herself so I think she was slightly UT but then she went quiet again so it was ok...

I will stick to this for a few days again and see how it works out and if it doesnt work I will cut am nap to 20 mins and bring pm nap forward after 2 hrs 30 A time...

what do you ladies think?

also Im really struggling with the first nap - she gets soooo angry at the 3 hrs 30 A time - she screams and wont let me put her in grobag - its a horrible battle - do I just keep battling this nap at this time or should I be moving the timing of this one?

Im actually convinced that all the NWs are actually totally avoidable with the right routine - the teeth cant be bothering her that much cos shes as happy as anything inbetween sleeps!

thanks

Hi Annette, I would definitely push that AM nap back later.  No need for such a battle, hopefully!  We were at 4 hrs A time, 20 min (sometimes 30 min) AM nap, 3 hours A time, then longer PM nap, until recently.  This timing might suit for a while, until she is ready to make the final push to one nap.

how did you find your LO reacted to the 3 hrs A time in between tho? I just worry that my LO will get OT with that! shes so super touchy!!

thanx so much for the quick reply - I think I will definately try the longer first A time tomorrow - Im going to start with 3 hrs 45 to ease her in (im so chicken!!) then a 30 min nap then 2 hrs 45 A then hopefully long nap!! then if that doesnt work so well then I will push to 4 hrs A then 20 min nap then 2 hrs 30/45 next A...

the reason I keep short second A is to avoid the OT that jas always gets into with too long second A time and also to keep the day within a reasonable length cos I always find anything over 12 1/2/ 12 3/4 hrs length of day results in NW and EW...this is whats been happening with the 45 min naps!!

so tomorrow will look like this;

wake - 7
nap 1 - 10.45 - 11.15
nap 2 - 2 - 3.30/4
bed - 7.30/45

thanks so much for helping me! wish me luck! Or should I say MIL cos she has her tomorrow!!

Looks good!  You know best how fast to push the timings out.  Good luck to you and MIL!
