6 week old E.A.S.Y. routine destroyed by Grandparents!
« on: February 18, 2010, 06:07:42 am »
My LO was eating 4 oz. every 2.5 to 3 hours, but when he got to grandmas house, I notice a change in his sleep pattern. She was given him 5 oz or more!!! Now, I dont know what to do because the EASY routine was going so well and now I feel like I have to start from square 1. Can you ladies help me out!! He is 12 lbs and he is 6 weeks. I was thinking if I did the 2.5 oz per how many lbs he weighs, then he should be eating 30 oz?? wow!!! That is 5 oz and 6 times a day feeding. Im really confused, but I hope to get him back on track soon with you all's help!

Hi there, it is possible that your LO is in a growth spurt.  If more was offered and they drank it, it usually means they are ready to take more food.  They don't typically eat it if they aren't hungry.
The tweaking never stops!

I would also expect your LO to be feeding 3 hrly rather than 2.5hrly by now anyway.

How often was he being fed when having 5oz? 2.5oz of milk is a teeny amount really.

The advice in the Uk is always to feed to baby's apetite. If they are draining all their bottles you need to add another oz or two. There should be enough in the bottle so they can stop because they are full not because the bottle is empty. Babies are pretty good at self regulating and will take what they need.

Bottle fed babies generally do a 3 then 4 hour EASY before breastfed babies because formula takes longer to digest. If he is taking 5oz and keeping it down I think that is probably the right size feed for him at the moment until he starts draining those bottles. The 2 - 2.5oz per lb of body weight is a fairly rough estimate, some babies take less over 24 hours and some a lot more, so really just let him guide you.

When you say sleep has changed is he sleeping more or less?
