I would say go for it - BUT have you ever tried 45 or 30 mins at all yet? The voice of OT caution within me says perhaps that should at least be tried first.

We've had crappy 45min or 30min naps in the past - I wouldn't say we've tried it on purpose but have had several days of bad naps and I've never particularly seen an improvement in his nights I don't think anyway.

He only ever has a 30min nap at ILs in the buggy and *often* can't say everytime sleeps better at night.  We even have an hours drive there and back if he did wanna fall asleep.

I completely know where you're coming from Liz and a big part of me feels like that too...  I just don't know what to do for the best.  I guess I feel that if I'm going to do a no nap day then Sunday can be a "short" day iyswim?

Oh I don't know!!

making an assumption here but if on a short nap day you put him to bed really early (to compensate, logically) then it wouldn't have helped the nights if he is super low sleep needs...
No nap would be a disaster here and I'd opt for 30-40 min nap and later bedtime plan . But L is high sn.

Either way I say go for it, shake it up and see what happens

Sleepy vibes x

We'd probably do 15mins earlier, which is usually all we could manage, we've never done a 5.30pm bed for instance.  But you're probably right... sigh....

I guess I've just assumed that he must be OT cos of all the NWs that earlier bedtimes are the only way I could get any extra sleep into him.  He's NEVER not had a nap, we had some horrendous short naps during the 2-1 but he was sleeping marginally better back then - not great don't get me wrong - more restless than actually awake.

Yesterday he napped 70mins (he was with my mum can you tell ::) )
Asleep at about 7.10pm - that's the other thing which is happening, even with putting him down later it's taking him even longer to fall asleep
I heard him around 2.45am - I gave calpol as ALL his canines are cutting
He was back asleep by 4am (that's the next time I woke!)
Awake this morning around 6.30am I think...
So if we say he had a 10.5hr night and a nap of 70mins, we're probably saying he's 12 hours tops...maybe more like 11.5 do we think?

So thoughts on tomorrow...
Wake I reckon it'll be like today which will equate to
(6.30am) 7.30am...
Bed at 6.30pm (old 5.30pm)
Then if he sleeps 11.5hrs it'll be 6am monday!
What do we think, I guess the other option would be a nap for 30mins(time??) and bed at 7pm

To get a more accurate picture of his sleep needs, could you do a log for a week or two? Not sure what to advise re the naps, I just know that OT can creep up really quickly with no naps or super short naps, so I'm not sure I'd be dropping it now TBH. But you can only try and see how it goes!

Maybe monitor him and if he's getting really cranky by 1 pm you could try a short nap and 8pm bedtime. Otherwise your plan looks good.

Personally I would go for a short nap for a week before dropping the nap completely.

But I know it is very hard to know what to do for the best here  :-* :-*

I guess the bottom line is I've been convinced he is OT for so long and no amount of extra sleep has helped things over a long period of time.  He has a good couple of days with better nights and then back to square one.

Today we did 1hr nap and longer A till bed and it still took him 20mins to settle to sleep.  When he is tired enough he falls asleep straight away.

I completely see your point Liz about a week of say 30min naps but in my heart I think if he slept all night he'd actually be giving up his nap fullstop like these bubs who drop their nap early.  I don't really want to force no nap on him but think it's worth a shot...  if it gets worse at least I know.

MLK - His nap is already around 1pm normal time.  However my plan is if he is flaking around that time or a bit we will do a short 15min nap to get to bed or something.

When DS was in hospital he managed to stay awake for 8hrs on a 30min nap!!!

Please can you wish me luck and support for tomorrow and keep everything crossed that it helps.

Thank you.

LAURA xx
