I've been thinking more, and do you think there would be any chance that he would take a very early catnap too?  I know with Ben that when he's very OT, the more he catches up on his sleep the more he is able to sleep iyswim?  So I'm wondering if because he had a better night than he has done for ages, whether this might help him to be more more likely to take better naps today - since he will be less OT highly strung?

Sorry, I'm not really helping.  It's hard when it feels like such a gamble whatever you choose.....but then tomorrow is new day and you could try something else

I would try to replicate yesterday as close as possible. AMAZING if he did sleep through - will be so interesting to see what happens tonight.

If he did this he is VERY likely to refuse sleep the rest of the day - unfortunately.

You are helping - believe me it's just so nice to have someone else's thoughts when everything I have been trying doesn't work!   :-*

Just not going to be possible as we have a playdate this afternoon and he doesn't see many other children due to his illness - although which is more important I guess?!  I'll do his nap as late as possible then and see what happens!  Thanks Anna.

Laura, that is fabulous that he slept through! ;D  I would do your best today for a later nap and enjoy your play date!! BTW, I hear ya about the cat naps.  They never work here either.

YAY good news!
4. Cos it took him a good 45mins to get to sleep he didn't need to do it in the night - iyswim?!
i totally get that, its like they've acknowledged its bedtime and unwound properly.  Louis always sleeps better after a long 'getting to sleep' not sure how you might engineer that but maybe the later nap might achieve that.

Hope you have a nice afternoon :-)

I have seen that you are getting loads of help from other BW mums, but I just wanted to share what is working for me!
My LO has been having about 8months of EW's ranging from 4.30 - 5.30am.
In the last 3 weeks or so I have moved his nap from 12.30pm to 11am (or whatever 5 hours is after he wakes) and then I let him sleep for as long as he wants some days 3 hours other days 1.5 hours and then I count 5 hours to bed (I thought I was done counting his A time hours LOL)
Anyway I have noticed the most dramatic difference - he is waking at 6am or later (fine for us as we get up at 6.30am) he is going asleep easily at 11am - and then say he naps for just 2 hours I have him back in bed at 6pm and he is asleep in about 5 mins. Some mornings he has slept until 6.20am!!!
Not sure if this would help you as I know you have had illness issues, but just wanted to share!
Amyx

Thanks Amy, I'm glad that things are working out for you and thank you for thinking of me.  Unfortunately DS is the worst napper and putting him down too early ends in a short nap and an even longer A till bed.  He is completely not the norm - that is one thing I do know!!

Yesterday
nap 12.50 -1.50 (he didn't really want to go down but with a bit of encouragement did)
Bed 6.30 (was aiming for similar to day before) it was 7pm before he went to sleep
NW 2.15am for over an hour - his usual thing
Woke sometime around 6am - I guess!

Today nap only with encouragement at 1pm for 20 mins  :o   :o  now I'm really hacked off!

Going to GP this afternoon, send me good luck vibes please.  I really need her to understand and help us.

Ok well clearly the BW vibes helped to make my GP the usual helpful nice lady she normally is!

The bad news.... as a GP she cannot prescribe any sort of sleeping tablet to a child under 2 so I can't do the "try and break the habit" plan - although she thought that was quite a good idea and off the record told me something else I could try OTTC.  Not ideal but she also was concerned about his safety and the fact things are not even getting the slightest bit better.  She is calling the sleep clinic to see what they have to say and agreed that they tend to just deal with routine type stuff and other major sleep issues and I said I felt like all avenues hadn't been looked into.  She is going to speak with DS immunologist about his septrin (antibiotic med - she'd never heard of it causing issues with folic acid) and then DS is probably going to be referred to a general paed as well!!  I probably won't hear back from her for at least a week as she only works Thursday and Fridays.

So even though there is no "solution" at least I feel she is doing something.

I would still welcome any other thoughts though ;) ;)

Oh, that is SO good.  At least having some other professionals on board makes it feel less like you are just figuring it all out on your own.

Are you going to try the OTC stuff?  If you just decided to use something for a week it would at least cross something off your list of things that you have tried.
