What's everyone elses 18 months year old eating?
« on: February 20, 2010, 13:04:44 pm »
Hi,
I feel like I've got stuck in a bit of a rut with my DS food.
Breakfasts are fine but main meals (I'm a busy working Mum too which tbh doesn't help!) I'm struggling with!!
Any suggestions please?
Are other LOs having food mashed or eating 'proper' meals?

DS eats everything, and I mean everything we eat!  For quick meals and snacks for him I do soups, sandwiches (PB, ham, grilled cheese), beans, soy hotdogs, leftovers, veggie sticks, all kinds of fruit, yogurt and cottage cheese.  And for dinner we just give him whatever we've prepared for us.  :)

yeah, same here. DS eats everything and he now wont let us feed him, he wants to feed himself (sometimes this results in a mess but he is good at scooping up the spilled food! lol) x

Ds eats everything we do - I just make sure that we eat healthily (not much salt etc).  No need to mash anything at this stage - you can just give him finger foods or he could feed himself with a baby fork/spoon depending on the meal.

I had a thread about this a while ago, because we get in food ruts too.  My LO doesn't eat the same food as us, because his diet is so restricted.  However, he still eats "adult" food, just without the foods that he can't eat.  As far as breakfast goes, you can do toast, eggs, french toast, pancakes, cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc.  I know time is an issue for you since you work, so you can even make a large batch of pancakes in advance, freeze them, and then pull out as needed.  For lunches, I am assuming you are packing food for day care and I don't know if things can be heated, but you can do sandwiches, roll ups with just meat and cheese, yogurt, fruit, etc.  If you can heat things, you can always just pack leftovers for your LO.

If you look back, you will see the thread I started about this.  There were some good ideas on it from others regarding food options.

There are lots of ideas for meals on the "what my toddler eat today" thread which is a sticky on this board.....also gives some of the 'reality' of what other lo's are eating which can help your sanity  :)

Wow, everyone's LO eats everything!! Too bad we can't say the same thing.  I'm feeling very jealous.  I've got a very picky eater. :-\

It's normal for toddlers to be picky and go through picky stages.  Especially when teething.  My DS is not necessarily picky, but he is much more difficult when he is teething, so something to keep in mind.  :)
