Help our EASY has become ESAES
« on: February 21, 2010, 13:55:56 pm »
Hi there
We were doing quite alright until a few days ago. My lo is 12 weeks, he was nicely on a 3 hour routine, not perfect but at least we were following the EAS pattern. Everything changed when he started waking at 6 instead of 7 in the morning. His first feed is around 7, he wont eat earlier because he has a feed around 4am. So in the morning because he is awake since 6 by the time he finish the feed at 7 he is very sleepy and falls asleep very soon, so no activity time here. And the circle carries on all day because then he sleeps for 1 1/2 or 2 hours and is not time for the feed yet and the whole thing repeat itself all day long. I didn't change anything, bed time is still the same, around 7 1/2. I normally don't do the dream feed because I realise it didn't do anything as he wakes up around 1 with or without dream feed so I wait until he wakes. Then he has another feed at 4.
I'm lost here, what do I have to do to go back to EASY?

Could any of the NWs be habitual, have you tried W2S?

Could you also post your routine in EASY format to be easier to read?

Thanks

well, I have tried to give him a dummy when he wakes up but all we get is he will cry after half and hour or an hour with the dummy because he is hungry, he drinks it all when I give him the bottle and he will be unsettle after that because of the crying. If I feed him when he wakes he drinks the milk and falls asleep straight away.
Our day is more or less like that

6am wakes up, he is awake in the cot 'talking' for half an hour and then I change and dress him.

E 7
S 7:30, normally 2 hours
A until is time for the feed

E 10
S 10:30  He is really sleepy I cant keep him awake
A 12 to 1pm

E 1pm
S 2pm ( here he is a bit longer before falling asleep but he is really grumpy as he is ready to go to sleep)
A 3pm to 4 pm

E 4pm
S 4:45  ( this nap until next feed is a mess as he normally wakes half an hour later, is really grumpy and falls asleep again say 20 minutes later for another half an hour)
A we have the bath here when he wakes up

E 7pm
S  In bed between 7:30 and 8

without dream feed he will wake around 1, not always at the same time, it can be 12:45, 1:20, every night is different time. Then around 4 again , it changes as well depending what time he woke earlier, normally works out like 3 hours after. I have tried to do the dream feed at 10:30 and stop the 1 am feeding but It didnt work he will drink the dream feed and again 3 hours later so I now wait until he wakes up.
And we start the day again at 6, it's like he has an alarm clock ! everything was much better when he used to wake up at 7. what should I change? I notice he doesnt have a lot of activity time but he is so grumpy when he is awake too long...

Two things come to mind, first, I think you need to stick with an A of 1.30 hrs, so looking @ your routine
E 1pm
S 2pm ( here he is a bit longer before falling asleep but he is really grumpy as he is ready to go to sleep)
A 3pm to 4 pm

So, I'd put him down here @ 1.30, instead of 2, which would hopefully give you a 1.5 hrs nap & that last sleep of the day is normally 30~45 mins, just something to help him get through till bedtime.

About the 6.00 AM awake time, I'd suggest trying W2S, this is a link about it:

Hope this helps..:)
