16 month old long nw's
« on: February 26, 2010, 21:44:00 pm »
Hi all I'm hoping someone can help. About a couple of weeks ago my lo started to wake randomly at night - anytime between 12 and 5 am - upon waking she will cry on and off for sometimes over 2 hours. Each cry itself never lasts long 30secs or do but this is every 2 minutes or so. I can't think of anthing that has happened to trigger this - she has always gone off to sleep fine on her own and could settle herself at night. No obvious sign of teething and she doesn't want me to do anything for her eg pick her up or whatever. I'm just at a loss. She us becoming so grumpy during day - presumably through tiredness. Naps once about 1pm for 1.5 hours or so. I'm sure I've missed out info...let me know if I can add anything else!
Hope someone can help

Routine is as follows:
wakes 7am
breakfast 7.15
snack 10.30
lunch 12
nap 1 - 2/2.30
snack 3
dinner 5
bath 6.30
bed 7pm
thanks for taking the time to look x
just a quick add to say that she often has a wee cry in evening often about 9 ish but settles herself in less than a minute.

how long have you been on this routine? If she has been fine until very recently then I would def suspect teeth to be the culprit. If this routine is new she may be getting a little OT. Let me know and we can think up a plan x

My first thought on this would be OT as well - my 18-month old has a 2h+ nap, so 1.5h at 16 months seems a little light.  Even if she has been okay on this routine for a few weeks, it could be accumulated OT from having a little bit less sleep than she needs every day, iyswim?  Waking at 9 is also a sign of OT - could you maybe try an earlier bedtime for a couple of days to see if that helps?

yes - the other thing is that if she is teething it may cause her to be napping short and so getting OT. DS is on and off teething and has been having terrible naps which has resulted in some very odd days/nights x
