teaching a toddler to swim....

hi there, I have been taking 16 mnth old ds swimming a lot recently and he loves it...he's very confident and I want to help him to learn to swim.....should I enlist him into a group or is it fine to just play with him and get him to use his arms and legs until he can tread water?  Or am I expecting too much from him

Groups are good for teaching you ideas.   DS loves, loves LOVES waterbabies

You could always go to a couple of group lessons, then go swimming on your own instead of the group (or as well as the group)

groups are great but i've found they are really free time with an instructor wandering around.  it's a good incentive to make you go once a week though.

I liked lessons because if I was paying then I would definitely go!!  I really wish we lived closer to an indoor pool because Spencer will now blow bubbles in the tub and put her head under the water all on her own, I think she would love swimming lessons.

ah bless her, that's really brave~sounds like she is a water baby like my DS, he likes to walk around in the baby pool without me holding him like he's a man about town all cocky and laughing/calling out to other people.
