Hi again ladies ;)

Ah. was debating whether to post on EASY or naps, as naps are always the issue - but it's got some A issues as well.

Well. My lo is just so hard to keep up with. I think I can count on one hand the number of times she has done TWO 1.5 hour naps. She's done some one nappers but never two. Oh, you lucky women who have los who sleep.

Just to summarize: I guess she's teething. It's been two weeks. It's getting closer I'm sure but I doubt things will really change when she stops teething, ykwim? I mean change in terms of the length of her As.

So the longest I've got her going in the morning is 3 hours and 40 minutes and she gives me about 1 hour and 15 minutes. today, she was giving me crazy hard sleepy cues - rubbing her head in my chest, whining, rubbing her eyes, yawning..the whole kit and caboodle. So I put her down at about 3 hours and 20ish minutes and she wakes at 35 or so and I managed to sh/pat (yes, still doing it ..lol) her back to sleep for, I think, 45 minutes or a bit less. Usually this means she wasn't tired enough to transition to the next cycle.

then comes the afternoon - no yawning, no rubbing eyes..but WHINY. And rubs her head in my chest. I put her down after 3 hours and 30 minutes and she cries a bit...talks in her crib and eventually goes to sleep after 10 minutes.

.....wakes at 37 minutes. Not interested in going back to sleep AT all. I've tried tylenol before this nap and it doesn't make much of a difference.

I kind of know what to do...should I just extend her morning A to 3 hours and 40ish minutes and then keep the afternoon nap short?

Thanks ladies :)  gotta go lo is whiny. again.

At those A times you will need to think about the 2-1 switch - are you planning on having a shorter am or pm nap as you go through that DREADFUL process?

Yup Sarah looks like she's going to transition early.  Since she was prone to EW my advice is to go with short AM/long PM...but it doesn't work for every LO.  At least you aren't getting nap refusal yet :-D  There's always a silver lining.

We're in the same boat here too so watching what is suggested too.  When you say A time are you referring to awake time or activity time?

hiya georgeo :) Welcome aboard the ship - rough waters ahead ;) A time can refer to awake time AND activity time..they're both the same thing!

Liz and wendy..hmm thanks for that lovely piece of news ;D I think I knew I had a daughter that wasn't too keen on daytime naps, but keep thinking she'll give me those dreamy 1.5 hour naps (gawsh, I really wanted even a week of this).

Wendy - hmm she's neveeer done a long afternoon nap by herself. Well, okay that one day..but she got sick the next day!

Wendy and Liz - I dunno which one to cut. I know she's not a morning person and she sleeps longer in the morning than the afternoon. I'm used to having her wing it to bed time with 45 minutes of sleep usually ;)

With her As getting extended to 3 hours and 30 mins in the morning (I have to reeallly stretch her in the morning bc she's a BEAR to get past 2 hours and 30 minutes sometimes) but then she's so rested by the end of her first nap that she's like "nap? it's nap time already?" by 3 hours and 30 minutes in the afternoon. She doesn't even YAWN when I've put her done and she humours me by sleeping for 35 minutes ::)

Wendy - so far (not sure if it's teeth to thank) she's been sleeping well at night. 11 hours is the average..10.5 is not uncommon though. Unless she's lying in the dark for 45 minutes and not saying anything..

whew. That was a novel and half. Thanks for the read!

It is hard to decide which to cut. I think if she would go down earliest and happy short nap for you then I would do the short am/ long pm.

One of the reasons I switched with J was that he just will not sleep unless he is fully fully tired - so I couldn't get the am nap early enough to still fit a decent length pm nap in.

Jacob is prone to EWs as well and I did manage to transition with a long am nap and pm CN. We did suffer plenty of EWs but it never got really silly. Manageable iyswim?

definitely. thanks.

she did have 10.5 last night. Not sure if she fell back asleep as I fell back asleep :( If she did fall asleep, it couldn't have been more than 30 minutes. I hope she was just tossing and turning...

anyways, will see what today brings!

today was a good fluke day...she took 45 minutes this morning. I tried extending but she was in a light drowsy stage for 20 minutes.

the afternoon got me a 1 hour and 15 min. I'll take it.

I had her in bed by 6:15ish after her last waking around 2:50ish. She fell asleep by 6:40 I think.

My MIL was baby sitting as my dh was working and I was teaching a class. My lo never has an issue at night. I actually know something is wrong if she wakes..and she does it like 2-3 times a month.

I came home and my MIL had her in her arms. For an hour. An hour. She said dd was crying. I can't get mad at her bc..she's my MIL and well, what could she have done really. Ah well. Tomorrow's another day.

Grr.

Hugs Sarah, nice that you were able to get out of the house even if MIL messed it up.  The draw of having a baby in your arms can be very powerful for some people :-)

thank you for your kind words words of encouragement. You always are so sweet.

I know my MIL went home and talked to my FIL. I know my inlaws think I'm over the top with my BW ways...but I don't mind being devoted to her and I go out bw her naps etc.

family is a blessing but I don't mind moving away to Newfoundland, really.

gah. I'm not as frustrated or have the energy to chase naps anymore but do you think her naps are just crap bc of teething?

She's been giving sleepy cues and rubbing her eyes really hard and whining. I put her down at 3 hours and 20mins this morning ..30 min nap, 20 min pat, 45 min nap. this afternoon..same thing..3 hours and 20 mins down, 35 min nap. She's super sweet and happy when she wakes up and continues to be so until the end of the day now.

I was thinking to try: 3 hours first A, 3.5 second A, and then 4 hours to bed time. I really don't watching the clock, but with my daughter it seems like I have to.

What do you guys think? ::)

modification: come to think of it...she rubs her eyes a lot lately. Noticeably a lot. It's not inflamed. There's no sty. It's not pink. There's no crust. Is it related to teething?

Hi there, yes Finn rubs eyes when teething, not just when tired.  He rubs eyes and pulls on his ear and rubs his head sometimes.

It IS common for A times to drop when teething, how many teeth does she have now and what teeth are coming in?

Are you using the Camilia - did DH give the seal of approval?

*laugh* um. she has zero teeth. I'm assuming just two are going to come in...or maybe I'll get the whole set.

Nah. DH did not give his stamp of approval. Which I get....he's a dentist, so i get his sensitivity to products and such. Since I'm with her ALL the time..put her to sleep, feed her, change her...I think he feels like he doesn't help out much so when he feels strongly about something I tend to just leave it and not push the matter further.

Good memory. And thanks for the info...good to know what Finn did/does!! Darn teeth.

Hi there, yes so Finn teethed in 4's not just 2's so it could very well be. Hopefully not the whole set although it would get it all out of the way at once lol

I think I would try to avoid a really long A to bed to be honest.  Try a bit more balance maybe? If she's not sleeping as rested at night the teeth may bite so to speak.  We have had some OT nights and due to teeth Finn just couldn't recover as easily as he would have had he not been teething IYSWIM.  4 hrs is pretty long at 8 mths to be honest.  I know she does well at night but I wouldn't want this to be the thing that causes that to go kablooey.
