Spoon refusal with 1st year molars?
« on: March 05, 2010, 20:28:39 pm »
Ok so my big plans about getting Finn to drop bottles and move to cow's milk need to take a hiatus.  He's back to working on the molars.  Top left is just through, top right I can feel the sharp edges but he barely lets me get near his mouth so it's hard to really tell what's going on.

His nose is running like a faucet and he is c-r-a-n-k-y.

He's not taking the spoon again.  I am giving him as much finger food as I can but he doesn't consume that much of it in a sitting.  I am still really relying on some purees/textured /mashed foods to carry us through.   When I try to spoon him some of his favourite stuff he crosses his arms in front of his face and cries at me  :-\

Did you find LO refused the spoon when teething molars?

To be honest he's not that keen on his bottles either.  Here we go again.

dd1 hardly ate a thing when she was teething.  he won't starve just be patient with it and it'll pass when the teeth pop through!  have you tried letting him do the spoon on his own even if it is messy?

My kids both refused to let me spoon feed them much past 8-9 months.  Let him try the spoon himself if you don't mind the cleanup, but I wouldn't worry too much about getting the purees in him if he really doesn't want it.

He won't do the spoon himself yet, he will just throw it.  We have given him his own spoon before too.  He's doing pretty well on finger foods and bite size pieces of things so it's probably just a phase, could be related to teeth but then again maybe not.

Have you tried a fork? D went thru this st this age but loved a fork where she could stab at the food and feed herself.she found it so much easier than a spoon x
