6 month old 'A' time differs throughout day?
« on: March 08, 2010, 09:59:51 am »
Hi, my nearly 6 month old daughter has different 'A' times throughout the day.
This is her routine normally:

wake up & eat: 8am
nap: 10am
wake up and eat: 12pm
nap: 2pm
wake up: 3.30pm
eat: 4pm
nap: 5/5.15pm
wake up: 5.45/6pm
bath: 6.30pm
eat & bed: 7.15pm

She was going easily for 2 hours between each nap, but recently she seems to have changed.  She wakes at 8am and has a bottle. She used to go until 10am before she was fussy for nap 1, but recently she has started getting tired much earlier, usually by about 9.30/9.45, but sometimes even   just an hour later at 9am.  Then she goes the 2 hours between her waking up at 12pm & napping again at 2pm.  And then between naps 2 & 3 she only has about 1hr30-1hr45.  Does this seem normal?
She seems happy with this, as she is pretty consistant with it and sleeps through the night from 7.30pm - 8am with a small dreamfeed at 10.30pm.  I guess I just wanted to check it was 'normal' for some babies to not be quite on a 2 hour activity time every time at 6 months.  Would you wake her later if she's still sleeping in the morning? Or put her down for her 1st nap earlier? then if I do that do I only let her sleep 2 hours or let her sleep longer if she wants?

Thansk in advance.

its very normal for A times to vary if the nap beforehand was a bit shorter. in fact we encourage you to shorten A time after a shorter nap!
I would advise extending her A times though becuase at 6 months old she should be getting closer to a 2.75 hour A time, not to say she should be on that exactly but a 2 hour A time is more suited for a 4 month old baby :)

I would gently extend the A times by 15 mins every couple of days
