i think there gets a point, especially when their sleep cues arnt reliable when you have to go by the clock a bit more.in order to cope well with the 1 nap you need to be closer to 5 hrs A to get it to work wellespecially if you have a short napper.

Has he ever done these long naps or is the 1.5 the norm for a decent nap for him?
The reason i ask is i have a serial 1.5hr napper if that and i had in my head once she goes to 1 nap she will do these delicious long naps that everyone talks about but guess what she never did! it drove me crazy messing with times, then due to this getting her OT then UT just to try and get the long naps everyone was talking about.
sometimes with the 1 nap you just have to push thru the OT a bit,use earlier bedtimes to help, tho not too early in my experience if your lo doesnt make it up at night, and push thru.

i would go for a 5hr A before nap and after and suck it and see!!!

he used to sleep for ages and I would have to wake him at the 1.5 hour mark all the time, then he just started waking at 1.5 hours and then we went to one nap for a bit and the most we ever got was 1 hour 40 mins and that was only ever twice, most days it was 1 horu 15mins to 1.5 hours but he slept 12-13 hours at night (which was fantastic) he just had a really long A time at the end of the day (like 6 hours!)
Yep!!  Now go...

what I would say is that I am thinking once DS is reliably on one nap (xmas at this rate!) he will need a longer first A then most as at the moment he does 4.5 A with a 20 min nap and then 3.5 before the longer nap and it is taking that amount of A time to get a decentish nap. He will take a nap after 4.5 but that is if I AP like crazy. When I have tried 5 and 5.5 in the past it has only got me short naps. What I am kind of hoping is he will respond to a set nap time at a reasonable time of day which will mean we can cope with a shortish nap if he does that and then he can not have tooo long an A time after or a tooo early bed. So not much then!!!!

Ok so figure this out.... The other night he went to bed at 7.20pm woke up 10 hours 15 mins later at 5.35am. Last night he went to bed at 8.20pm and woke up 10hours and 15mins later at 6.35am!!! What's with that??? We are going to aim for one nap today because I think the two seperate naps is what's messing with him for some reason. he gets the same amount of sleep on two naps as he does one nap so it's not that but I think it's having the two naps that's doing it. What do you all think?

My vote = one nap....

My friend's LO always does 10.5hrs nights whatever bedtime - so now her DS bedtime is 7.45pm!

Excellent news!!  Definitely stick to that for a few days.

You will probably still need fairly early bed too.  Hope you get a good night.

Jo, in your experience and in talking to other moms, what are these 1 hour 15 minute naps?  We've been having handfuls of them too, with the odd 1 hour 30 min or even 1 hour 45 minute naps, but most are 1.25 min naps!!!  We're going through the same thing you and Caleb are at the moment, with the varying between 1 and 2 naps days and the two nap days are really not doing any good either, but the A times we have are soooooo long because of the bleeping short naps!!  We've done 4.5-5 hours A time before the first nap and it's never given us a consistent nap length.  We've had a few days where we'll do 4.5 hours and he'll nap the same as when we've done a few days of 5 hours.  I'm stumped.

Well personally it's UT, that's my thinking, I did 4 hour 50 mins A time again today and got a 1 hour 35 min nap and to be honest I'm happy with anything over 1.5 hours.

UT...  I know a lot of people say it's OT but I think if you have a short napper by nature then it indicates UT, that's what we have found anyway!
