getting back to proper meals after illness
« on: March 16, 2010, 15:35:25 pm »
DS had a stomach virus about 3 weeks ago. It lasted for 13 days  :o

Now he is drinking normally and pooping (almost) normally. And if I do a food diary, he is eating normally too. But the thing is, its all in little bits. He has not eaten a full meal for almost 3 weeks now.

When he is well, he generally eats one full dinner every day (no-where near the sizes recommended for toddlers, eg can manage about 2/3 of a toddler tray meal on a good day) and one sandwich meal. oh and breakfast (1 weetabix) with a beaker of milk morning and evening.

Obviously, throughout the day he usually has a couple of snacks (rice cakes/cheerios/raisins etc).

But since he has been better (6 days now) he has been snacking a lot more than usual, and although he eats bits of his dinner he is not eating the amount i usually expect....but wants snacks less than an hour later.

So my question is, as its only been 6 days since the sick/poop stopped, do i let him run the show?
or,
try and encourage more at proper meal times?

Has anyone else experienced this?
