any suggestions for a good winddown
« on: March 18, 2010, 15:57:15 pm »
hi, I believe I am not able to make a good winddown for my DD. I have tried 20 min earlier, 10 min earlier, tracy's sit still, never swaddled because we started sleep training at 4th month.ssh-pat does not seem to work anymore.
What I do now is enter room, close the door, say sleep time, change diaper singing a lullaby, close the curtain, hold on my shoulder for a few seconds rubbing her back and put down to her bed. kiss and say sleep well, leave the room.
Lately she began to cry as soon as we start to change her diaper.
Can anyone share your winddown rituals maybe I can improve ours, it seems ours is not getting her relaxed and I can not think of anything more. She seems like she does not have patience for the winddown and wants to sleep... Does changing rituals and trying new things afeect our naps more in negative way or not? at 6 months old it is like I am still not comfortable with our sleep training, feels we could not succeed. Or are these cries normal at transition periods? Please share your experiences. Thank you.

For my lo, she wanted her crib right away(still does), so we always did a 2minute wind down consisting of closing the blinds, holding her lovey and singing our song.

Can you post your routine? Your lo could be OT at that point!

I agree with Sabrina. For my LO, the wind-down never made him relaxed or drowsy, it's main purpose was to signal to him that he was going to go to sleep now. A shorter wind-down worked better for him.

My 6m.o. DS needs a pretty long wind-down that is very calming and precise so we go into his room, shut the blinds saying "good-night sunshine", take his mobile down from above his change table saying "good-night friends", close the bedroom door and then turn on his CD and do a slow cuddle dance for the first two songs.  He can be giggly and chatty (although tired) when we first walk into the room, but is very calm and relaxed by the end of the 2nd song, which is when I put him in his cot.  He knows each step for example as we close the 2nd lot of blinds will look to his mobile, then as we close the door he has his hand held out towards the CD player.  I recently changed this from stories and quiet play on the floor and found it has made a huge difference in falling asleep for his daytime naps as well as night-time.  Good luck.

Today goes the same, crying again before both naps, now she is sleeping hope she will complete 1,5-2 hours. Thinking OT I put her down at 2 hours A, I am sure she is not hungry, yet she cried as soon as I started changing the diaper. By the way she does not have diaper rash or sth that hurts, then she settled herself after some sshing and fell asleep.
