First day - Help!
« on: March 22, 2010, 13:46:38 pm »
We have started sleep training today with Mabel. She has been on an EASY routine for a couple of month, but sleeping on us.

So far today we have managed to get her to sleep but she has only slept for 20 minutes each time, and it has taken an hour or so to get her to sleep.

What do we do when she only sleeps for 20 mins? We have tried PS to get her back but she isn't having any of it.

This is so hard, and now she is so tired.  :( She has only had an hours sleep in total and she has been awake almost six hours.

She is 15 weeks tomorrow. We are not sure whether we should be following the advice for 3 month or 4 month olds as it appears to differ.

She is yet to figure out that she can suck her thumb, and instead tries sucking her whole hand, unsuccessfully. And she doesn't like her dummy and will only suck on it occasionally and for no longer than 30 secs or so.

The main thing to remember with short naps is to bring the next nap forward so that she doesn't get too overtired. Keep feeds the same distance apart, so that means you will sometimes do EASAEAS. It's great that you have managed to get her to sleep! Stick with it, some overtiredness is inevitable when you are sleep training, but it does get easier.

Woo! She just slept for 50 minutes.  :) It took about an hour to get her to sleep, but it's an improvement.
