Please help!
My husband, 14 mo daughter and I were on vacation for 5 weeks in Australia. She did great transitioning to the new time zone and did very well there with sleeping/napping in different locations.
We got home 4 days ago and she is TERRIFIED of her crib! She used to LOVE her crib... she'd get very excited when we would put her in it for a nap or bedtime now she screams when we lay her down and she's been waking up screaming from naps in it.
She also is not sleeping through the night anymore. She wakes up 1-4 hours after she goes to bed screaming and wont settle. We've had to bring her into bed with us to calm her down and she's perfectly fine once in bed with us.
Once she's close to sleeping we'll transfer her back to her crib.. she'll then scream, but only for a min or so. The first night she slept all night with us.

Why is she so upset now?
What is going on?
Why the fear all of a sudden?

ETA: Tonight has been the worst. She has been up since 7:30-9:30 (I think she's finally sleeping) She went to bed at 7pm.
DH thinks she's waking because she thinks it's time to get up and he thinks we need to give her two naps until she figures it out, I think we should stick with the one nap (which is what she was doing before we left) instead of changing it on her again once she gets better... Thoughts?

Please help. She used to be the most perfect angel sleeping and never was upset when placed in her crib.

3 weeks of the 5 weeks we had a motorhome so she slept in her car seat for most naps (driving) and on the bed at night time.
But even though she was moved around she NEVER complained and always would sleep where she was.

We just can't get her on the new time zone... she wants to stay awake until 12pm every night now (including last night... she was awake from 7:30pm - 12am!)

Hi Kristie

As your lo is over a year I'm just going to move your post over to Toddler Sleep.
FWIW - we have dealt with this sort of thing too.  Two things that pop into my mind:

1. You have only been home 4 days, can there be some jet lag going on? Sometimes lo's (and adults!) can adjust back to the old time difference mentally, but are just physically lagging behind? This has happened with ds1 where he seemed exhausted but he just would not be put into bed.
2. You were all together all the time on holiday, maybe she is going through separation anxiety now that you're back at home? Have you considered sleeping in her room for a night or two?

Kikoz15 - She wakes up normal time - 7:00-7:30am

Jess - I think there is still some jet lag going on... must be
I don't think it's separation anxiety because she didn't sleep with us on holidays. She was on her own bed.

Last night was MUCH better, so I hope it's getting better now!!!!

Kristiel, just ride it as it comes and go with your lo cues, tweaking here and there if possible to help her adjust.... I think it is def jet lag and it is going to be difficult for a while, it will pass and glad that things are going better ...and ps :) try to rest when your lo rests if you can, it helps ;)  X big hugs

Glad to hear it's going better! And I hope it continues! My rule is usually two weeks of going with the flow after any trip, before sleep training or doing anything else like that. Our kids usually sort themselves out in this time period.
