Oh, I missed a lot here in one day!  Becky, I have to agree with the set nap idea.  We've started doing that and things have gotten a little better.  It just sort of happened naturally as that's what we do with DS#1~ we don't have a baby monitor for him, so we have no idea what time he wakes/falls asleep.  He's just used to the times we have set for him. We have started to similar things for Jesse and his set naps have seemed to have him sleeping in a little later.  The trade-off is that he has long NWs.  It must just be that he's not quite ready for the long A times needed for one nap so he's making up for that at night! LOL! Whatever.
Anyway, you're a great mom from what I see and you should just try not to let it get you down.  You're already doing loads to promote good sleep habits which is only going to pay off in the future.  This is only a stage and things will change and more tweaking will be needed shortly enough, so just ride through it as best you can.  Who knows? Maybe you'll accidentally stumble on that balance sooner than you think.

ok just need advice for tonight as just in from work. So yesterday...1 hour nap 12-1pm and bedtime 6.30pm. Today..
A - 6.30am
S - 12.30-2.30pm
Bedtime?
Am thinking 7.30pm as he has never had a later bedtime and don't feel comfortable about it but wondering if 5 hours is ok? I am guessing he will do a shorter night i.e. 10.5/11 hours
It seems that the longer A gets a longer nap and the shorter nap gets a better night. Probably not uncommon?

Yep exact same formula here!

I wouldn't do later than 7:30 either.  Try 7:30 and see if he at least does 10.5 or 11 hours.  If he has an EW then we'll know that he has a bedtime "threshold" and can't go later than a certain point, even with a good nap.

Do you think 7.30pm is too late? Last time we had this 'perfect' day and I did 5 hours post nap we got an EW...

I think 7.30pm sounds fine.  10.5hrs would be 6am, so I think that sounds ok.  What time was bedtime the last day you did 5hrs - was it 7pm?  and then a 5.30 wakeup?  I'm thinking if you get the 2hr nap you'll get a 10.5hr night...

yes last time we did a 7pm bedtime after a 2 hour nap and he did 10.40 night.
I am starting to think he actually sleeps better at night when he has little sleep in the day!

Hi Becky,

I too would do a 7:30pm bedtime.  It is strange but less day sleep equals longer nights.
It is just figuring out the right A times after a shorter nap.

I'd go for 7.30pm too. We got a short nap today (45 mins) and have gone for a 6.30pm bedtime, I hope that Sabrina is right and we will get a longer night after less daysleep!!

Fingers crossed all round then...... :P

yes I know! I never would have thought he would have needed 6 hours A time at the start of one nap - that is probably kinda where I have been going wrong maybe.
Good luck to all of you tonight xxx

I've been on a 7:30 bedtime since time change and am loving it!  Here's hoping you get at least 10.5 hours.

question is...if I do get 10.5 and he wakes at 6am it is a shorter night obviously but what does that do to A time? This is where I get stuck as 6 hours is a ot on 10.5 hours night sleep...

sleep 7.30pm and awake at 6.10am so exactly the same as last time. Thinking of sticking with one nap at around 12pm ish. Sound ok?
