Advice on day/night split please
« on: April 03, 2010, 15:13:45 pm »
I have been loosely following BW for about 6 weeks with my 10w/o. He is getting better at settling himself now and our wind downs are (sometimes) getting much shorter.

My problem is the day/night split. One thing I have not done is follow the waking DS at 7am routine. I am not a morning person at the best of times and after possibly 2 night feeds I cannot face waking him this early as I fear that he may not go down easily. I just wait for him to wake up and we tend to be getting up between 8 and 9am.

On the other hand I appreciate that by doing this you do get your evenings (although this isn't a big seller to me as at the mo DS is having major troubles getting to sleep in the eves anyway).

I am sure I am not alone here so does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this dilemma??

Thanks

BW is really all about routine, not schedule.  So the sample routines in the books that start at 7 am are just that - samples.  The idea behind EASY is that it starts when your bub starts.  I NEVER wake dd in the am - my EASY routine starts when she gets up - and always has since birth.  So somedays, it starts at 7, sometimes at 7:30, rarely at 8:30, but since it's a routine, it doesn't matter what time I start.  So, if he tends to wake between 8 and 9, that's when you start your EASY.  Now, that does mean his bedtime will then be between 8 and 9.  But some bubs are late starters, and that works for them.  There's no reason you must start your day at 7. Go with what works for your bub.
