2 x 30mins nap between each feed
« on: April 04, 2010, 19:38:19 pm »

Hi, I have a 5 month DS, He gets tired after about 1/15/1.30hrs after each feed (we are on 4hrly), he sleeps for 30 mins, wakes, has a bit more A and then is tired again and will go down for another 30 min nap, all in between each feed!
Im assuming I am going to really have to try PU/PD (which we did with great success to get him to go down, he goes down a dream now) to keep him asleep.

My specific question is that, in the begging, i wont be able to keep him awake for 2 hours, so I will have to put him down when he is tired. I believe I will have to keep him in his cot for 1.5/2hrs doing PU/PD. He will then be awake for almost an hour before his next feed, then of course he will be too tired to go the required 2 hours of A before his next sleep, I cant see how to stretch his A after his E to 2 hours - when my DS is tired there is no keeping him awake, he starts screaming!

Hope this makes sense! He clearly needs more sleep (we have never gone through the night yet either) as he needs the 2 naps, but is always cranky and grumpy  :(

Any advice would be great, thanks.

Hi, welcome to the boards ;D

If you stick with the same A times, you're likely going to get the same naps. I would try pushing his first A of the day out by 10-15 mins. Keep things low key, really just an extended wind-down.

PUPD really doesn't work that well to extend short naps, the key is nearly always to get the right A time. So if he wakes early from a nap I would do PUPD for 15 mins, but if he's clearly not going to settle I'd abandon the nap and try again for the next nap. If he has a short nap, you shouldn't try to get him to do 2hrs A time after it.

Thanks, but this way he will still want 2 naps between each feed - do you think they will eventually join together??

Thanks for the welcome! was it rude of me not to introduce myself! (cant find the smileys to insert the embarrassed one!!)

No worries ;)

You might have to juggle feeds around, it's fine if he has two naps between feeds, things can just be really messy while you're trying to get onto a solid EASY.
