Hi there

Im feeding my lo every 3 hrs in the day and getting her down for a nap anytime from 30 mins to 1 1/2 sometimes shes fast asleep after 20 mins after finishing her bottle.

in the day she can still be sleeping past 1 1/2 so i wake her when shes slept for 2 hrs am i right to do this so she gets her feeds in.

i find it hard to settle her mid morning and 4 to 5 am she can take  hr or so to nodd off is this normal and any suggestions we swaddle her giv eher dummy as she wants to suckle badly it falls out and she cries for it till she nodds of then she sleeps well but we can be putting the dummy in for a hr till she can nodd of, and im sure if we shush pat it would be the same situation and i have a 3 yr old and cant spend over hr shush patting.

do you wake ur lo up for feeds in the day? cause i know they have no idea and will sleep what ever and then be up all night if left to cause hungry.

cheers nenee

This is what we did when DD was young.

If she had a good nap and was due a feed, we would wake her up at the 3 hour mark.  However, if she had taken a long time to settle and had not been asleep for long, we would let her sleep until the 4 hour mark.  This way we ensured that she got majority of her calories in during the day.  It also helped esure that DD did not get her days and nights mixed up.

Hi ya

Thanks for your help really appreciate it.

When u say wake at 3 hr mark does that mean 3 hrs from last feed and 4 from last if took a while to nodd off so you go frm last time of feed eg;

fed at 3  nap at 3.45 wake at 6?

u said ur lo sometimes took a while to go off thats whats happening with my lo most naps she takes 20 mins of swaddling using a dummy which she wants it then falls out and i have to put it back in all the time it takes her to nodd of, but around mid morning and 4 to 5 am ish she can take an hr to nodd of did your lo do this what did u do to get her to sleep and when did it pass the fussiness at naps?

cheers

Yes, I would make sure that we did not go past the next feed, so if feed was at 3 and we had a good nap, I would make sure my lo was awake by 6 for next feed.  If it took lo a long time to fall asleep, I would not let her go pas the 4 hour mark.

What I did with my DD while she was young, I used to pat / shhh her and just hold the dummy in her mouth until she was alseep.  It was not the best scenario, but it did help her get to sleep quicker.

When we had the fussy days where she did not sleep well I would do a little APOP (accidental parenting on purpose) cause with my DD breaking habits was far easier than trying to get rid of the OT monster.

We especially had problems when it came to the cat nap.  I used to lay with my DD on our bed and cuddle her for the cat nap, that way I was sure that she would get her nap and not be OT for bedtime.  THis did not pose any problems for us, as we still made sure that we did all our ther naps int he cot/moses basket.
