Now it is Breakfast
« on: April 07, 2010, 12:53:00 pm »
I need to vent......
My little picky eater has become more picker. I know it is part of toddlerhood but I have no idea what to offer her anymore. I have many delicious recipe books with delicious recipes but she not interested in them.
Our breakfasts now consist of a few food items:
-dry cheerios
-bagels
-waffles
-crackers
-yogurt

Should I still keep offerring her a variety of foods and hopefully one day she will taste them?

((hugs)) I know it's frustrating, but that list isn't *that* bad!   Yes, by all means keep offering!!!  Give her the thing you KNOW she will eat, along with something else.  Fruit...watermelon chunks, sliced grapes, cantelope.....if she would eat a bit of fruit, a bit of dry cereal, and a bit of yogurt, that really is a good breakfast.

Also...could you try mixing in a different kind of cereal with the cheerios?  Just to get her used to some variety? Kashi makes a cereal called "Mighty Bites" that is super-healthy and really yummy. Maybe toss a few in with her cheerios....and then keep doing it....it takes many, many times for a lo to be offered something before they might try it. yhe first step? Get them used to seeing it.

HTH!

Does she like porridge? Or weetabix? Those go down really well in our house.

I really wouldn't worry about breakfast and variety... I think it is fine for them to have a cereal and toast or similar every day... well that's what my DD has and it seems fine to me.

same here - we stick to what DS will eat and go with it!
Have you tried fruit puree on the cereal - it is lovely :)
Either buy it in little pots of stew some fruit.

i say keep offering different things.  sometimes it isn't picky as much as control you know?  ds for ages refused to eat anything with melted cheese on it (go figure?? he used to love cheese in any form ) and we just kept offering it iwth little bits on his plate and eventually he got back around to enjoying it like he did before.  they do grow out of a lot of the pickyness as the need to be in control stage passes.

If all else fails offer the same old things  ;).

We have a very dull list of food and every now and again I offer something new.

I just try and avoid getting stressed about it or into conflict with him.

((hugs)) it is very frustrating.

Definitely keep offering different things.  We're finding with DD that some days she refuses breakfast but then hoovers her snack, especially on Sundays - we'll make her breakfast, then do ours later and she'll hoover ours when she didn't want hers.  Have you tried the Quaker instant oatmeal?  DD loves the Maple & Brown Sugar flavour and the Cookies & Creme (that one's a treat!).  She likes to spoon feed it herself and typically eats most of it.  We usually give her blueberries mixed with a bit of vanilla yogurt or part of a Dole peach cup or Mott's apple treat too.
