So today was so sunny and nice, and we were playing at the sand-table and on the swings. DD loves (LOVES) to fill a pail with water and water the trees and plants. We have a stone wall, and alot of big boulders around...so I got an old paintbrush of dh's, and she "painted" all the rocks and the stone steps with her water! It dried quickly, so she did it over and over! Then I got a small brush from her paint set and we painted letters and numbers and pictures too! She said that when she wakes from nap she wants to paint Daddy's car!! Have at it, kid...it's an old jalopy!

It was alot of fun!!

Oooh, maybe I'll send mine out with a bucket and paintbrushes to paint the concrete patio.

I remember doing that at a friend's birthday party when I was little...thanks for the reminder, I know my kids would love to "paint" the patio when it gets a little warmer out!

We bring ours to the pool. They are a real hit. It is always hard tracking them down because all the kids enjoy the activity.

I got some, from the hardware store, that would be used for painting a house or something like that. Bigger than painting in a coloring book, but smaller than ones used to pain a house.

Why didn't we think of that before? We spent out on an Aquadraw mat for DD, when it would be cheaper to "paint" the patio! Drying time here of .5 seconds in the summer ... would keep her going for aaaaages!!!! LOL

I know, right? We have the aqua-doodle too....but on a sunny day..this was so much fun for her! And bonus that she got all wet...it kept her nice and cool!

She likes to make water-handprints on the rocks too...so maybe I'll cut up some $1 store sponges into shapes, and then she can "stamp", too!

Using water in a squirty bottle is also fun, and strengthens little fingers too. Gotta love painting with water, no mess to clean up!

We finally got some sun this weekend and my DD has spent all weekend painting out on out balcony. She then asked for a sponge and washed the patio doors! Had already asked 'painting outside' twice for it this morning!!!

DD used to do this regularly last year, but she used her tongue instead of a sponge!!!!

Wet wipes on kitchen cabinet doors and appliances is another way to occupy little ones and get gunk off the front of the stove and dishwasher too!

DD Loves this activity. She would get the paintbrush and paint our patio stones. Then she would splash her hand in the water and laugh. Eventually, she dumped the water on herself. It was fun to watch.

Another idea is different sized paint brushes in the sand box.....

We actually do that too!!! At the Children's Museum here they have a kind of "dino-dig" sandbox...so we sort of stole thier idea! DD has a sand table (we got it from a nursery school for $20 and it's awesome!) and we bury those little platic animals...you know the kind you can get at Michaels? Then we use the big paint brush to brush the sand away and find them!

Natalie prefers to find her hidden sand toys with a sieve. Less work.

I shudder to think what that one would do with paintbrushes in the sandbox. LOL

Yes, I have noticed certain size paint brushes work better for different kids and different age levels.

We dig for small toys as well in the sandbox!

Oh I love the sand and sieve idea. We're getting DD a sand pit for her birthday on Friday and she'll LOVE searching for things in it!
