Not sure whats going on? SA?
« on: April 10, 2010, 18:01:18 pm »
DS used to be the most independent sleeper. I am weaning him gradually at the moment from breast. He has started taking steps and now he is the clingiest little thing? He has NWs unless he is truly exhausted (ie we have a really long day). And he wants to be held back to sleep where as he used to push away from me when it was time for him to go off to sleep. He has been clingy in general. He wont even calm down if I am in the room or if I comfort him then put him back in. He freaks out.

Also in the morning, he used to play in his crib for 45 minutes, now he rattles the bars and whimpers pathetically like something is scaring him.

We had this too when our LO started walking.  I read somewhere that it is something about them becoming independent from you and almost being afraid of it so becoming more clingy?  Not sure, but it made sense to me.  It is also a common time for the molars to start moving around at the back of the gums, which can make them miserable for a number of weeks before the teeth are even close to cutting through.  It could be that he is in a bit of pain when he wakes in the morning so not as happy to play by himself.  Can you see any swelling or lumps at the back of his gums?

I think it has gotten bad since he started standing on his own, which was about a week and half ago. So that does make sense. Did you hold your LO a lot or is that not good to do? I just want him to go back to being a good sleeper, but I certainly want to reassure him.

I keep checking for molars, none have broken through yet, but teething has always been a big even for him, so it would not surprise me. I feeling like he has had lumps where his molars should be since he was 6 months, so I don't know I cant tell!

Teething would typically cause my DS to act like that too.  He became much clingier and we had more SA problems when he was teething.  I remember being so discouraged, because he went from being a total independent champion sleeper, to this horrid clingy little monster who wouldn't let me leave the room when he was going to sleep!  So that could very much be your culprit.  The standing could have something to do with it too.  Sometimes it's so hard to tell when there is so much going on in their little lives!
